Re: Exploding Daggerboard!

Seen that happen on two so far (both owned by myself or a family member). One had some hairline cracks in the leading edge that started the delamination process. One had big chunks falling off to a lesser degree than what you have. Had the one in worse shape professionally repaired in like new condi...

Re: Rudder and Centerboard Alignment

Thanks Dave! I used a steel tape and got everything aligned. You are right about how much of a difference it makes with the rudder blade aft. We had a slight grounding one night and crushed the back a little. Lets just say it made for a tough night on the helm...

Rudder and Centerboard Alignment

Anyone have any tips to align the after edge of the rudder to the centerboard so that they are both parallel with each other? I am sure there is a relatively easy way to do this, I just cannot think of it. Thanks!

Re: Hull Fairing Set-Up

Thanks for the reply's! I am planning on taking to board out completely at some point to fair it properly. This is the second 7.9 I've worked on...the first one had some delamination issues similar, but not as severe, as were mentioned before. I wold like to avoid as much as possible fair the bottom...

Re: Hull Fairing Set-Up

What I was thinking was to lift the boat up using a travellift and using old mattresses to set it on to prevent anything from getting dinged/scratched up, Then flipping it over to the other side. I have see this done with j24's and J22's with no real problems. Have the boat on its side would make th...

Re: Hull Fairing Set-Up

Has anyone ever set the boat on its side or flipped the boat over to work on the bottom?

Re: Hull Fairing Set-Up

Thanks for the idea. This could be the easiest way to get done what we want to do with out involving the travel lift and what not. We can probably get the hull long-boarded in a couple (long) days...

Re: Hull Fairing Set-Up

I have heard of that being done before. Seems like a good route to go, but I might have trouble finding a warehouse that will let me do that. Anyone have any thoughts about using jack stands temporarily?

Hull Fairing Set-Up

I am looking to fair the bottom of our 7.9. The previous owner used Interprotect, but did not fair it after the final coating so the surface is a bit rough. The boat is currently on a trailer and am looking for ideas on what people have done to set it up to be able to access the areas under the trai...

Centerboard Crack (by tang)

In the market for 7.9 and while looking at one recently I noticed a crack at the top of the centerboard near the tang for the lifting mechanism. Anyone have this happen before? Is this something to be overly concerned about? It would seem that the tang should be attached to the metal structure insid...
