Re: Sheeting the #3
When its blowing stink out in my opinion, the #3 isn't what is driving you downwind, that massive mainsail is. I've found the boat just smokes downhill at 15ish true with the number 3, if you can get the daggerboard up a bit that less of drag can help a lot too. The upwind angle shaves another 3 deg...

Re: Balsa Core location in Hull
Its about this thick throughout the hull. This is the starboard bow quarter https://www.shnool.com/images/s279/_Ragtime/20240212-RepairsWinter2024/IMG_4248.jpg This is the hull, directly in front of the keel https://www.shnool.com/images/s279/_Ragtime/20240212-RepairsWinter2024/IMG_4273.jpg So 1/2&q...

Re: Main Halyard Replacement
Rope to wire?
Both my S2 7.9s had 5/16 halyards. That size is good for the boat. The inexpensive option is VPC. MPX or the like works too. Sheaves are fine.

Re: Photos of running rigging
I do crank on the backstay to depower upwind. The mast on my boat though does not curve much, but it does eliminate headstay sag.
I have played around with the idea of more purchase, but not sure to what end.

Slowly filling the hole https://shnool.com/images/s279/_Ragtime/20240212-RepairsWinter2024/IMG_4422.jpg I'll skip steps here, cause its fill, fair, fill, fair, fill fair, until we get almost to level. Better yet (still no gelcoat) https://shnool.com/images/s279/_Ragtime/20240212-RepairsWinter2024/IM...

Re: Another Rambling repair post - Ragtime 399
Stef, full on T-Bone. Winds were up pretty good. They grounded fixed keel 5.5' deep J27 in about 4 feet of water (imagine that, they were heeled about 30 degrees when they grounded, doing about 5 knots). Nobody would have been able to get close to them, but me (lifting daggerboard to the rescue). I ...

Re: Outboard Motor Question
My hull number 68 was a 7.5 HP Evinrude, and it pushed the boat to hull speed at 3/4 speed on flat calm water. Present hull has a Nissan 4 stroke (2010 model) 6HP long shaft. Boat hits hull speed at about 7/8 throttle. That last 1/8 just makes more noise. Haven't had any issues with headwind up to 3...

Re: Another Rambling repair post - Ragtime 399
Better look at the cleanup of the hole, was trying to give layers room to work, so I can lay in core and such. No choice but to do the back first then work to the outside (unless someone has a better idea) https://www.shnool.com/images/s279/_Ragtime/20231212-RepairTransducerandHole/IMG_4248.jpg I ha...

Another Rambling repair post - Ragtime 399
Last race I got a souvenir while attempting to pull a J27 off a hard grounding.

So I started that process

Re: Optimim Heel Angle in 12 kts Flat Water
I am going to start poking at older threads, cause its fun. Faster is flatter of course, but to the point in 12 knots fresh air, you probably have all your crew stacked on the rail and are fighting to keep it below 15 degrees heel, with your #1 up, assuming upwind of course. I rarely have full crew,...
