Re: The hunt for a tow vehicle...
reidmefirst, Good question. I have a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 4WD. It tows the boat reasonably well and was reasonably priced (9 years ago gently used). I have never used 4WD to pull the boat out of any ramp, but I likely have not used a ramp as steep as yours. The truck pulls the boat wel...

Re: Trailer Mast Support
I took a treated 3X3 and cut it to the height I want, then epoxied a piece of foam padding to the top. Finally, I drilled a hole for the carriage bolt. This has worked well and allows me to tie my mast down in the middle without fear of bending my mast the wrong way. The benefit big benefit is I can...

Re: Help with Cam Cleats
You can go up to a #10 in terms of diameter. I would go with a finer thread such as a 10-32 as you have more flexibility in terms of torque. I am not sure on length, but I would guess 2-1/2''. I would go longer (to be safe) and cut them off with a Dremel or fein saw after you have the washer and nut...

Re: Help with Cam Cleats
The holes for the OEM cam cleats match up with the standard Harken 150 cam cleat. The Harken cleats have a higher profile and require a different head so you will need new (longer) bolts. I have not replaced my cleats on the boom, so I am not sure if the higher profile will create any clearance issu...

Re: launching from a hoist
BTW, this is an inboard boat with the engine removed and no weight-compensation put in. What should its displacement be? I figure about 3900 lbs. but what say you more experienced folks? Alan - I own hull 7, which was an inboard. It weighed in (on a local scale, not the official class scale yet) at...

Re: Runaway
Tom, I have a strut with cutlass bearing, folding prop, and shaft I removed from hull 7. Visually everything appears to be in great condition, but I never used any of it since the boat was partially converted to an outboard when we bought her. As far as I can tell nothing has seen salt water. Let me...

Re: New sails
I have never heard of Bullit Sails. I recently bought all new sails for hull #7, since it came with only the original sails. I went with Doyle for two reason. First, the rep in my area is a long time friend and is well known for providing excellent service and support. Second, after shopping around ...

Re: Red Fox Regatta in Charlevoix, MI
I haven't received any interest so far, but wanted to put one last note up here in case anyone else was interested in doing the Red Fox Regatta. The information is below: Dates: September 4th-6th Host: Charlevoix Yacht Club - Charlevoix, MI Note: 2 of the 3 S2 7.9s currently planning to race in the ...

Re: Rig Tune
Hi Bruce, I can't speak to your first two questions, but I can speak to the third. The headstay should be set to a dimension and not a tension. The forestay should be set to 31'8'' pin to pin, which is also the class maximum. From their you can set the tensions on the caps shrounds, once you have th...

To add to Dave's comments, another great thing about epoxy is West System has a dozen tech advisors on staff ready to take calls and/or emails if you have questions or need assistance with their products. I should note that I am not completely objective as my wife works in their marketing department...

Red Fox Regatta in Charlevoix, MI
Charlevoix Yacht Club hosts a regatta every year on Labor Day weekend, which is open to all boats. It starts off on Friday evening with an optional buoy race, typically of an olympic triangle variety. Saturday the race takes you to Boyne City by way of several buoys designed to lengthen and add addi...

Re: Mast Storage Horizontal on Boat
I built two sawhorses to set the mast on for storage and trailering. I really did not want the weight of my mast (>100LBS) bouncing up and down on my gudgeons everywhere I trailer the boat. I am hoping to keep my gudgeons staying tight and sealed with no core issues in the transom. I figured they di...

Are you referring to the full stern rail as opposed to the grab loops. If so, I have a full stern rail off of hull #007 if you are interested.

Re: Sail Crossover Charts
Thanks Tac! We are sailing out of Bay City Yacht Club in Michigan. We plan to do some PHRF racing with the boat locally and perhaps some one design when time allows for more travel. We were not ready for the class championships this year, but hope to be ready the next time they are in Michigan. Drew

Sail Crossover Charts
Hello, My wife and I are in the process of upgrading all of our sails. The sails that came with the boat appear to have been original, actually pretty impressive for hull #7. Anyway, we are trying to get a feel for when we will use what sails. The crossover from the #1 to the #3 seems to be around 1...
