Re: rudder question

This past winter I was sailing the boat with a friend in the wee small hours of the morning. We got a bit disoriented and approached the harbor we were going to at quite the wrong angle. It took a while to figure it out and in the process of heading for deeper water in the channel went *bump* in th...

Re: rudder question

The rudder on my boat is cracked. It's definitely repairable, which I'll be doing but I don't want to sail offshore with it. I have a quote from Phils Foils for a rudder which is exactly the same below the waterline as the class rudder, but is one-piece. It doesn't kick up and the whole structure s...

34 pics of a 7.9 offshore in a blow and inshore

http://www.photoboatgallery.net/p415344280 CRW shots. Some in ugly stuff and some in the stuff everyone loves. Note the Beneteau 50 camping all over us in the DW shots. That was their "payback" for us having them chucked on race day 1 in the protest room. With hindsight I should have filed...

2016 Charleston Race Week Wrap Up

Well it's over! Not sure what was more difficult. Sailing the boat in 25-30 mph breeze against 6-8 foot, (sometimes breaking) swells or sharing a starting line with 15 other boats like J29's, 35, 105's, 120's, Beneteau 50, and others. By far we were the gnat on everyone's ass..... Had a difficult ti...

Re: Annapolis NOOD Regatta

I am already sailing on another boat in Charleston, is the reason I don't pursue getting a class at Charleston. Secondly, I really like going to Annapolis. It is a great city, and we always have a lot of fun there. It's also a 5 hour shorter trip for me to get to Annapolis vs Charleston. Charleston...

Re: Annapolis NOOD Regatta

Not sure why you won't consider Charleston a week earlier for Charleston Race Week. I believe it's less travel time as well for most boats and more bang for your buck.

Re: Sarasota Role Call

It would be a great idea to promote the NOOD and Sarasota OD events as a sort of mid-winter series for the 7.9's. Clubs could allow travelling 7.9's to leave their boats on site between events. It would have to be talked up well in advance and promoted with incentives for people to make the return t...

7.9 Upwind in breeze against J24's

7.9 upwind in breeze_n.jpg Here's another one from Sunday. Guy had a high quality drone out taking shots. We flew our new/used #2. Looks to be about 140%-145%, but far less powered than our Quantum 150%. This sail was money in the breeze that blew between 15-17. We could have not held, (or gained) ...

Sarasota?

Last year the NOOD drew 6 boats. It looks like 1 stayed for Sarasota with two local boats to make a 3 boat fleet. This year the NOOD drew 8 boats with a couple being local. I had 19 views on my last post regarding a Sarasota Role Call w/no replies. Did anyone leave their boat in FL to come back for ...

Re: Luffing rights!?! The video

Can you please re-post the video. Link says you've removed it ? The short version was taken down. Not sure why... However, here's the link to the whole race edited down to a 5 min video. I think the luffing deal comes in after the 2 minute mark? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dH820ONY65k&featu...

Re: Upwind trim in 20mph breeze?

1. Headstay at max class dimension. Uppers + 12 turns from base (about 29 on "new" Loos guage). Lowers + 9 from base (don't know the actual Loos reading). 2. Backstay: 16 /1 "cascade" tackle... led P&S. Use Aggressively. (note... this is the new spectra backstay... not the o...

Re: Luffing rights!?! The video

Thanks AJ. Our frostbite series is very competitive, but we don't play bumper boats and try to use the rules situations that come up as "Educational" opportunities to use in the serious races. We had some great e-mail exchanges with our local judge about the video and what both of us were ...
