St Pete NOOD weather.

We have cold fronts coming through every 4 to 5 days, this year. One tonight and another one Sunday. If the regatta gets a break, you will get good weather. One day before usually light winds, the day of the front rain, sometimes thunder storms. Day after usually wind and quite cool. Real predictabl...

Re: why are upper shrouds so tight?

I also have a Dacron 135, from Doyle/Boston. Beautiful sail and fast.
I have at least 1in. on my turnbuckle to move. Also have a new turnbuckle that I need to install.
Will add a toggle, next winter or next hurricane, whichever comes first.

Re: why are upper shrouds so tight?

I'm having another issue after adding roller furling. Boat will not point.
Was careful to try to set up length, when I installed the R/f.
Since we don't do OD anymore, just beer can, thinking of lengthening the forstay.

Board down, when?

Strange thing in Friday night Beer Can race. We are sailing to the finish, government mark, wind dead behind, going OK for light winds. Wind shifts straight on the beam. We adjusted sails and still going well, for light air. Forgot that the daggerboard is still all the way up. Let the board down, sp...

I told my wife that if I ever get the bug, to buy an old boat, to fix up, hit me in the head with a dumbbell.

Re: Daggerboard pulley

Southern gale.
I have been talking to Scott at S2 and now am sure that the one I have isn't factory.
The black one, in your picture, is boring out and putting the bushing in, all you needed to do?

Re: St Petes NOOD and/or Sarasota 2018

Just got back from sailing, 84 today and going to be 86 tomorrow, for our race.

Forecast for next week and the NOODS, warm.
However St Pete in the winter, when it's warm, the winds are usually light.

Have a safe drive down. Doen't look like a lot of fun.

Re: How fast

We sail on the east coast of Florida. We are in a somewhat protected area of the ICW, so no real big waves. Seems like the high sevens is the limit for us, hit the eights only rarely and only for a few seconds. Have the same forecast for Sunday, except from the SE, where we get more chop. Warmer 77 ...

How fast

How fast have you gone sailing your 7.9. We had a beer can race last Sunday and it was blowing 27 with gust to 34, per NOAA. We had a triangle with a upwind leg of 1 mile, with 2 fairly close reaching legs. Twice around the course. We were sailing with a reefed main and roller furler 135. On the two...

Re: Roller furling on 7.9

Getting very close on this decision.

Tac, Doyle/Boston, suggested Harken or Furlex.

Harken tech guy suggested ESP Unit 0.I have had good luck with Harken, in the past.

Anyone using this model? No need for double grove, as I won't be changing jibs underway.

Spin sailing/ No downhaul

I have noticed that some 7.9's are not using the downhaul.
Just using the twings.
When I tried it, the pole still wanted to ride up.
Would be nice to have one less line to pull.
Need advice.
