Re: Help with Cam Cleats

Let me suggest that you consider using the low profile, rubber coated fairleads for the Harken 150 cleats. Years ago I had the older polished stainless fairleads on my San Juam 21. One of my crew slipped and fell during a jibe. The metal fairleads cut him badly. I wouldn't want to happen to anyone e...

Re: Parting Out a 7.9?

Boat #017 went to its new home in Western Connecticut in June.

The new owner is aware of the class association, I'll let him introduce himself.
Nice guy. Should be an asset to the class.

Re: Backstay Questions

I sent a drawing of what I needed for my back stay to RIGGING ONLY and asked for a qoute.
They're good people to work with. I'm please with their work and price.

I need a quick measurement

Could someone take a measurement for me? I am ready to install a new head foil. The old one was in pieces removed and trashed some time back. So, could someone measure from the pin at the lower end of of their fore stay up to the the feeder at the bottom of the foil section for me? It would be great...

Re: foam?

Jim's comment about the internal ballast adjacent to his leak got me thinking: Is there any chance that the weight and it's location relative the board trunk and/or the position of trailer bunks has, or can cause a leak to develop as a boat is pulled over rough roads at highway speeds? I recall that...

Re: foam?

Before this thread moves away from 'foam', let me add a comment. I would suggest that any foam introduced into your boat be
of the "closed cell" type to prevent it becoming water logged.

Re: swim ladders

You might think about putting a cable on your later with a latching hook on it. Snap the hook on something before putting the ladder on the transom. Mine is detachable, assuming yours is? I have one on my ladder and the rudder lift hook; pretty much anything that is is expensive, doesn't float and i...

Re: Mainsheet assembly

You didn't say what kind of conditions you sail in, but it might be relevant.
The change described above will change your mainsheet system from a 5:1 purchase to 4:1.
Something to consider?

Re: Anybody convert to masthead asymmetrical spinnaker?

Before cutting into your boat I would suggest that you look at and study the differences between fractional and masthead boats. Look at the fore and aft placement of the mast in both. You will notice that masthead boats carry a larger percent of their sail area in the foresail and less in the main s...

Re: Chainplate Covers

Chris, Could you expand a bit on why it would be better to cut the slot first, on the end of a bar? Secondly, have you considered having one made on a 3D printer? I know a guy who "prints" metal parts. Or even resin. I don't see how the strength of stainless was ever needed on the cover pl...

Re: Daggerboard Lift

AJ, Let me suggest, from my own unfortunate experience, that, before you trim the slide blocks, measure the foil thickness against the dimensions listed on Hot Tamale Racing's web site. My #17 had leaked water into the seam of the dagger board shell which caused it to swell and stick in the lower en...

Re: Daggerboard Lift

Has anyone tried applying paste wax to the inside walls of the trunk? As I looked at the posts submitted today it occurred to me that unpolished wax might allow Derlin strips to slide easier. It really helped the home made bow sprit slide easier on my S2 6.7.

Parting Out a 7.9?

Members are looking for masts, dagger boards, rudders and other had to find original parts for their boat. I have just bought a better boat to replace a very early hull number boat and was wondering if parting it out might work out better than selling complete. But, with so few boats in my area, it ...

Re: I'm Back...........

Well, I drove 700 miles yesterday, most in torrential rains, to Ft. Worth and back to Kansas. I went down to pick up hull #415. One heck of a lot nicer boat than old #17, which it will replace. My old Ford 150 came up with a case of the hiccups last week, so I borrowed my old Dodge diesel from my bu...
