Re: S2 Boom Question Cam Cleat on Boom

Apologies for the late reply. The photos on your post didn't attach, so not sure what the images are meant to show. But yes: the center pulley in the boom is for the outhaul. The others are for reefing (on mine that's set up on the starboard side of the boom) and the port side is supposed to be for ...

Re: tracks for main hatch

Agree, it would be nice to see more traffic. There is a facebook group that seems to have a lot of people on it asking questions. I'm not much for facebook though, so... I like to imagine everybody is busy sailing their boats at the moment. Mine is on the hard this summer for a few maintenance items...

Re: tracks for main hatch

There is a parts list on the main website, if you're a class member log in, go to Class Members -> Documents -> Technical Documents -> S2 Parts List. For the plastic tracks, the current person to reach out to is mgreggfam at att dot net, phone 502 645 1385, Mickey Gregg is the name. Lots of other pa...

Re: Original Backstay Replacement

For a full kit, I'd give Marc Crutcher at Unbridled Sailing a call.

I had a bunch of work done on my boat a few years ago, the guy who did it all leaned on Marc for the backstay (and some info on the centerboard I think). He knows the boats really well.

2025 St Pete race, looking to help out and/or crew

Hey all - I'll be in St Petersburg for the upcoming races/February 14th-16, 2025. I wonder if anybody is looking for crew/railmeet/even a hand at rigging or stepping masts? I own a 7.9 (hull 493) but am not towing it down to FL this winter. I decided to stick around after a work conference thinking ...

Re: Mast raising system

The real 'trick' with the mast raising system is that you want those turnbuckle setups to keep your halyards (the temporary sidestays for the mast) at the same height as the bolt that goes through the mast stepping plate/mast boot. The bolt is a pivot point for the mast. If you keep the turnbuckle s...

Re: Photos of running rigging

Hey that's my backstay :). How the backstay attaches in your cockpit will depend a lot upon your boat's layout. Mine was redone a few years ago, they use a bit of a different setup from the factory. The owner manual shows quite well how the original backstay hooked up in the cockpit. You can find it...

Re: New look of main website

Yeah I was supposed to race against Foxy in a lake michigan doublehanded distance race. Dad and I started the race but Foxy was nowhere to be seen. We bowed out of the race a few hours in when the wind piped up to 35kts and the waves built up to 8 feet -- didn't want to break anything (most of all m...

Spinnaker pole ring -- rivnuts?

Early on with my new mast I had a fun thing happen: one of the screws broke a head on my spinnaker pole ring. I ended up drilling it out and putting a slightly larger screw in, tapping the mast for it.. But I've not had a great time in general keeping screws in the ring. The mast is pretty thin and ...

Re: New look of main website

Likewise I happened on the site today (mostly 'cuz I saw a 7.9 for sale on Sailing Anarchy, Foxy, with a bowsprit and asymmetrics! Was wondering if anyone had any info on Foxy on the forums ;-)). I did just register for an account. May mail a check to the new clubexpress thing, although I think I pa...

Re: Ermine White Pigments

+1 for Minicraft/McKote. Had their smallest batch (1 pint) of gelcoat made up so I could fix a couple of chips on the deck. It was way more than I needed but that's okay. Color-match was fantastic. I was surprised since I figured 35+ years of UV exposure would make the white a bit different. I can't...

Re: Companionway cover grab bar?

Found what seems to be the 'stock' bar: Defender Marine carries the "White Water Stainless Steel Oval Grab Rail", as of 2023 sold as part number 888030. White water marine stocks it as part number 7875S. It's made from 304 stainless which is a little sad, but I guess for freshwater that's ...

Re: Companionway Trim Lace

Old thread but figured I'd help future people. I ordered a set of sample rubber trim bits from McMaster-Carr and ended up buying their part number 8451A13 "Heavy Duty Plastic Trim, Style 7". It's black rubber molding with a (I think) metal interior. Might hit the ends with some hot glue or...

Re: Lifting keel for S2 6.9

Whereabouts are you located? You might try and call Marc Crutcher at Unbridled Sailing. He has rehabbed a lot of S2s including 7.9s and 6.7s. IIRC the 6.7 and 6.9 share keels but I might be off on that. When I had my 7.9 keel repaired the fellow that did looked into shipping it out. He said that the...

Re: "L" shaped backing plate for starboard chainplate?

Thanks for the photos. G10 sounds nice and long lasting. Might do it that way too. Heading to the boat to measure the bolts on the chainplate to order some longer ones/deal with the extra thickness of some backing material. Glad I'm not the only one doing this ugly kludge. Better to keep the up and ...
