Re: Spinnaker pole mast ring

A2.C.12. The spinnaker pole is to be attached at the single fixed ring on the mast. Use of a second ring or sliding track is not allowed. If a sliding track has been installed, the original position (four feet one inch above the end of the mast extrusion) must be marked with arrows on both sides of ...

Re: 2011 Annapolis NOODs April 29 - May 1

Wow I feel really bad the its taken me this long to put up a post for the NOOD. Been just a bit busy and I don't get to keep up the any of the sailing forums. I have a Google map with key spots in Annapolis. The link is at the bottom. Ramp: Truxton Park has a great ramp. Was redone 2 years ago (that...

Re: windows/vented portlite

What do members think about modifying the class rules to allow changing the main windows to opening portlights. Would probably require some glass work. I think it would be a sweet addition to the 7.9 that the class rules shouldn't prohibit. http://www.lewmar.com/assets/img/products/product-8757-0-0-...

Re: Spreader Replacement - HELP! JSI cannot build them

I've had the bulge repaired. Took to local rigging shop, they ground out the split, bent back to shape and rewelded it.

I hope JSI can still make spreaders. The class has mast blanks down there. If you can't get it fixed, or one built, PM me.

Re: Downwind light air

Dave, Of course all conditions do not call for the same strategy. I didn't say DDW is the absolute rule, it is what the boat would prefer if possible. If you need some more pressure to fill the chute head up but don't start doing beam to beam gypes like you would on fixed keep boats. You normally do...

Re: Selden Sprit & Roller Furling?

I don't think the sprit and A-sail will be faster for racing. Even with the same rating. The boat goes downwind deep with the board up. Thats its advantage in PHRF. The boat is too heavy to consider "melges 24" type angles downwind. It won't accelerate and generate enough apparent wind to ...

Re: Downwind light air

Board up, weight forward and only venture from ddw to get the spin to fill, or to move across the course in order to place the boat in stronger pressure.

Re: Charleston Race Week

Thanks everyone. Actually the online results are incorrect. And they can't 'manually' change it since the pages are created by the scoring program. We won the tie breaker and the event overall. Very exciting, close, and brutal racing.

Re: Spinnaker Sheets

Dave, I don't have any questions. I'm not in the dark. I understand why you do what you do and why I do what I do. I'm not looking for validation. I'm simply explaining that having a few extra feet does have its place in the discussion. If you run short tails, you run the risk of the tail running th...

Re: Spinnaker Sheets

What does uncleating the guy have to do with short tails on sheets? The guy would be on the primary winch and within reach of the helm with a long or short tail. The only reason we run a slightly longer sheet is so when the spin is doused, the tail doesn't run through the blocks. Thus needing to be ...

Re: Spinnaker Sheets

Dave, I believe Gustsy said he ALSO uses high(er) tech lines for the spin. We have 2 lines that we use. The primary is an old 1/4 inch Kevlar core line with a poly cover (T900?). Yes we could upgrade and strip it, but the weight saving would be the same as that last swig of beer that you can't get o...

Hoists

Anyone keep their 7.9 on a hydrohoist (floating hoist with air tanks)? Anybody have any issues with keeping the 7.9 on hoists of any kind? I remember seeing 7.9s on hoists in Holland, MI and was wondering if stability is an issue, and do you keep the keel up or down. If I go with a hydrohoist, I wou...
