Re: Replacement Keel Lifting Rope Length

I believe it's in the owners manual available on the class website. Looks to be 27' which is likely for the stock configuration, probably need another 10'+ if you have the upgraded block\tackle.

Re: Main Halyard Replacement

Not sure exactly what it is since it came with the boat, but mine is rope from end to end, no wire. Pretty sure it's 3/8". I'd just get your preferred line in your preferred size and have at it.

Do the interior wood window trim screws just go into the frp? or something else?

Re: Daggerboard Forward Plate?

I am not allowed to post photos. The plate is 4" square and made of steel it is screwed into the forward top of the daggerboard. Do you guys have one too or was this done by a previous owner? I'm no expert, only owned my 7.9 for a little over a year, but that doesn't sound stock to me. Mine ju...

Re: Another Rambling repair post - Ragtime 399

Once again cannot seem to do any of this without the trusty dremel tool and reinforced cutoff wheels. I love my Dremel, but if you don't have one of those oscillating multi tools, get one. They're awesome. I took out one of those through hulls in about 15 minutes flat. Cut around the "mushroom...

Re: Outboard Motor Question

I've only had it out a few times, and the sensor wasn't working. Have received a warranty replacement from Airmar, but haven't been out yet. will let you know if I ever do and know it's working correctly:)

Re: Outboard Motor Question

I'm not sure brand matters as much as it used to. The mercury outboards in that class are made by Tohatsu to my knowledge. I have a 3.5 Nissan on a 21' sailboat, and it'll accept Tohatsu and Mercury parts. Has a mercury Cowl on it right now:) I am pretty sure the same holds for the 4-6hp motors as w...

Re: What if? 2019 Western Regionals

Hey Bill, I'm the 7.9 down in Kent. Mine isn't entirely class legal either, but can be made to be class legal really easy and i'm trying to keep it that way. So far, I've found the only thing that's truly not class legal is that I have 3rd Halyard, essentially 2 jib\genoas and one for a spinnaker th...

Re: Heavy mast and upgraded backstay questions.

I haven't calced what mine came with, but it's gotta be at least 12:1 by the looks of it. I haven't been out in conditions catering to cranking on it yet, so not sure how much bend I get yet.

Hull 278 with what looks to be the stock mast.

Check the files section of the class website (Join us>Documents). There's a diagram of what some people use, there are also a few posts in the forums here with alternative solutions that can\could be used.

Re: Daggerboard Lift

I made my own on my lathe using acetal and some bronze bushings. I'm not a professional machinist though though, so they aren't perfect. No one can see any flaws they might have under the daggerboard covers anyways. I know not everyone has a lathe but could be an option if you know someone with one....

Re: Boom Bolt surce?

So, talked with another 7.9 owner, and mine must be some customer PO mod... It's literally a piece of threaded rod with a bronze bushing over it, and two cap nuts on either side. Will move to a proper clevis.
