harken mainsheet traveler

Hi all, So, after forty years, my traveler is about on ats last legs. I've switched out the balls a couple of times but the races in both the car and the track are getting worn and nothing slides like it should. Question: what where the original Harken car and track model numbers, and what are the e...

Re: Newbie ?s for Racing 7.9s

Hi Doug, In answer to your other question; There are two 7.9's at PHYC, mine, "Aeolus" and "Fun Uncle". We both sail in a mixed fleet under PHRF rules. "Fun Uncle usually dominates the class. Whereas I'm a bit of a duffer and is usually end up somewhere mid fleet. There are ...

Re: Newbie ?s for Racing 7.9s

Hi Doug,
For what it's worth; my boat has never been weighed so I may have my trailer on hand as well. In fact, in the 20+ years that I've had the boat I've never been able to make to the nationals, this will be my first as well.

Re: Newbie ?s for Racing 7.9s

Hi, I can't really answer all of your questions but I can offer an opinion. 1. You say that you are just north of Port Huron. That means either Lexington or Port Sanilac. Both are easy day sails to Port Huron. Leave the trailer at home and sail your boat down. If you need to get weighed, I'm sure th...

Re: Board Position

Seems to work best when going directly down wind in light to moderate light winds. We leave some board down. All the way up and the steering can get squirrelly.

Yup, 6HP Tohatsu works well. Weighs around 65 lbs or so.

Re: Spinnakers

I think it might depend on how you fleet is organized. If you chose to race in a fleet that allows spinnakers and then don't use one that's your choice. If however you join and Jib and main fleet where no one uses a chute then a rating correction is irrelevant, since every one is doing the same thin...

Re: Hatch boards ??

It seems like they'd be easy enough to duplicate but rules suggest that they'd need to match the originals as much as possible. Does anyone have specs for the original hatch boards?

About those "Melges 24" brackets. I was wondering where you got them?

Re: Canadian requirement for pump out head.

Did it many years ago. I took the 5-6 gallon gray water tank that's under the port side v-berth and spun it around to the starboard side. Then I plumbed in a regular head. Flush water comes from a 1 gallon gray water tank that is connected to the sink. I pour a little head treatment down the sink in...

Motor question

I know that a lot of us are using the 6 hp 4-stroke engines from Tohatsu/Nissan. I also know that Tohatsu makes a similar motor for Mercury. Question is; is the fuel line connector to the motor the same on all three. Will the Mercury hose connector work on a Tohatsu motor. Mine broke, and I'm moving...

Re: Leaking from Keel cover

No backing plates on my boat ( #11), just some bent fender washers. Port side leaks a lot so I'll be addressing that soon. Starboard side not as much. I might make up a couple of backing plates like in the previous posts. Any clues on how best to clean the stains on the headliner?

Re: Foreseail control on the deck.

Yes, I did exactly that before roller furling. Still do when boat is set for one-design. My run up to the race area involves a mile or so of river that is frequently churned into white water by powerboats. The bungee arrangement keeps the headsail from getting washed out through the lifelines.
