Re: Hull Fairing Set-Up
I've put a few 7.9s on jack stands before with no issues. Tie the jacks together well before having them 'take the load'. If you're concerned about point-loading weight, find some scraps of very dense foam or 1.5" styrofoam to use. For long-boarding, I'd use five jacks. Three primaries - two un...

Re: catagory 3 for offshore racing
A few thoughts you've probably already incorporated - Check the thru-decks for ANY sign of water intrusion, weakness or flex. Upgrade the rivets in the spreader bracket. Check that bracket for ANY signs of cracking or weld failure of the bracket itself. Check the pintle welds for the same. Very care...

Re: rudder slop
The cheek plates are a weld/redrill or a 'buy new ones' fix. If you also have an elongated or warped axle tunnel in the top of your rudder blade: Get a brass pipe nipple at Home Depot, where the ID of the pipe matches almost exactly the OD of the lag bolt which serves as the axle for the rudder blad...

Re: Wooden headliner
I'm thinking that it would be tough to create the necessary compound curves from a flat sheet of plywood. Maybe it can be done, you'd need to create some pretty accurate templates first. Then transfer them to the plywood. Then you'd need some way to keep the sheet pressed in place while the adhesive...

Re: Jib measurement clarifcation
The rule will be corrected and will be consistent with How we measure genoas (3/4" more allowed LP for hanked sails). Old sails will be grandfathered in. But since those will have shrunk, we expect few would ever create a problem in the first place. Here is the new text headfoil jibs under 2.5....

Re: Jib measurement clarifcation
Working on it. Trying to find out where the error is exactly. That will dictate the solution.

Hey Dave.
It's pretty late, and I know you wanted a response quickly RE the genoa LP.
Give me a little time tomorrow.
I'll do my best to check with John as well.

Re: Borrow a Trailer?
Hey Brent Welcome to the class. And good luck with your new boat. [quote="bokeeffe"]I am in need of a trailer to borrow to go pick my new (to me) S2 7.9 :D A contract has been struck and a survey pending. All I need now is a trailer and the manufacturers are about 5-6 weeks backlogged! :sh...

Re: Chicago Mac
The speculation regarding the STIX might be fun.
But Tac is right about the Mac. (No surprise there.)
The race has a min LOA requirement of 26'. We miss by an inch.

Re: Chicago Mac
Hey Jim. This is an interesting question.....worth a little speculation. I've not seen a new STIX rating for our boats. As a guess, it looks like we'd be close to that 103. There are a bunch of centerboard boats currently rated, and they do no seem to suffer a huge hit. But that said, those like the...

Re: Spinnaker Launching
Hey Wynne If you're getting hung up between the main and the spreader, it sounds like you've got a halyard problem. The (relatively) taught spin halyard is trapped as the main gets eased prior to the hoist. Not uncommon. And it can cause a bunch of things to go wrong as the kite twists. Two things c...

Re: Really Dumb idea?
Just my SWAG here: I think you'd find the sail useful, but likely in a more limited range and set of conditions than you think. And more specifically, where ease/simplicity is valued over VMG. I've never sailed the boat with a cruis-y assym, but I have used a bunch of + 140% genoas in the past. Some...
