Near Rudder Removal by Olson 40

So it's 5 seconds 'til the starting gun on a packed line and the Olson 40 to windward of us realizes he's gonna get pushed over early. His solution - BARGE. We did some major turning to avoid them hitting us. Dang near took the rudder off by inches. Can you say "protest" :) barge_2...

Total refit & restoration of hull #267

#267 is back on the water after a complete refit and restoration. She was a Katrina victim that lost her mast and had some minor cosmetic damage. Structurally she was sound, dry hull and mostly dry deck, minor core work on the deck under some fittings. New paint, new mast from JSI, and new interior....

Toe rail end caps? S2?

My total refit of my 7.9 #267 is almost done but I am in need of the two bow rail and stern cap/trim. I remember reading awhile back S2 still had these available but now cannot find that information. Anyone know? And what is the best way to contact S2/Tiara? Thanks! http://picasaweb.google.com/saili...

Re: Spreader Replacement - HELP! JSI cannot build them

JSI is attempting to fix my spreaders so fingers crossed. I would think this rule would apply in the case they are not fixable A2.E. Replacement parts: Replacement of lost or irreversibly damaged parts such as rudders, booms, etc. is allowed providing the replacement as closely matches the original ...

Re: Spreader Replacement - HELP! JSI cannot build them

Rig Rite sells Kenyon spreader section SP2.2 that is VERY close in size (1.88 x .75), slightly thicker cord profile and thinner width. But used the exact same size spreader bar as my NewJSI class mast (3/8" x 1-3/4"). Would some one from the class chime in let me know if this is close enou...

Spreader Replacement - HELP! JSI cannot build them

My spreaders got water in them, froze, bulged up and cracked. Spoke with Dave Johnson at NewJSI and he informed me they cannot build new ones per class specs as they have run out of spreader extrusion and the recent company who made them (and the mast) went belly up, but waiting to hear back from th...

Re: stanchion

Did you still need the stanchion? I think I have one that is straight. Let me know and I can mail it to you. Jamie Had to go to the boat yard to see the one needed. Its the second one from the bow back on the port side. Thanks for the reply and any help. Greg hi greg, I'll see what I have and get ba...

Re: Anti-skid

Are you referring to the side decks or cabin top? I used Kiwi-Grip paint on my 7.9. For the cabin top, coaming and cockpit the kiwi-grip "loopy goopy" roller works great, just block sand it down to the desired aggressiveness after it dries, looks very factory and not that "sand in pai...

Another good source is JSI. Got new rigging for $560 shipped. JSI is also the mast builder.

Re: Special 7.9

It was a cool boat. I don't think they have it anymore and must have sold it? I know the "standard" masthead/fixed keel model is faster than the frac/daggerboard model so I would imagine this one is even faster than both (bare interior, 100% ballast in keel, stiff as hell). Not trying open...
