Re: Deck repair

I would tackle this one from the underside / inside cabin.
It will be hard to get things looking good agian from the top.
This also allows you to slowly cut away glass and balsa, minimizing the repair size.

I might be as well.
Is there an established price or target quantity?
Thanks

Membership Decals

I never received a membership decal.
Did they get distributed to members this year?
I haven't sailed in any one design events this year, but it would be cool to put the sticker on the boat anyway.
Thanks,
Sam

I have had my 190 lb behind up the mast at anchor and at the dock for various reasons. There has been no obvious damage to the rig or deck. I would only do this with a halyard that is in very good condition and with a proper knot tied (follow there figure eight or bowline with a stopper) rather than...

DIY Lift Keel Repair

I have done this repair. I used glass fiber and would recommend it to you. My thought was the area is pretty thin and needed the extra structure glass fiber would offer. It is a good idea to grind out the surrounding area so you can overlap the cloth with the existing glass. I undersized the structu...

Steve,
Thanks for the great idea.
I took the jack from my truck to the boat, but I was able to banjo the keel line enough to clear the winch.
I was quite surprised that we were able to do this so easily.
One man in front of the clutch, one behind taking up slack.

Override on the Lift Keel Winch.

Has anyone here experienced an override on the Lift Keel Winch. Any safe/creative ways to clear one? The line is 5/16” NER T900. The winch is a Lewmar 16 self tailer. The board is approximately half way up. I have done this on genoa sheets during races by cutting the line at the clew and tacking. ...

I would take the rig down first.
If you need to take it down for any reason before the job is done it would be more risky.

I use 3M 101. It is a sealant without the adhesive properties of 5200. 5200 has its place (toe rails, deck joint, etc) but I find the 101 is more flexible and much easier to take off and reseal which I do every other year. http://products3.3m.com/catalog/us/en001/auto_marine_aero/marine/node_GSCZBZF...

I had a small crack on the bottom of the board. The board was constructed in two halves and then bonded together. The crack down the center is probably along the seam between the two halves. I ground the bottom down to bare glass, enlarged the crack, and inspected it for any water damage. The inside...

I used an engine puller that I borrowed from a friend.
It was very convenient.
Using it I was able to lift, lower and flip the keel from one side to the other by myself.
Next time I do the keel I will buy one of my own.

Steve,
Did you go with a pinch style setup or cascaded?
Is it double ended? Any photos?
How did it work for you?

On most boats there is a cam cleat and fair-lead mounted near the rail close to the cockpit. Through that cam runs a line that goes through a block shackled to the toe-rail just aft of the second lifeline stanchion and is then attached to the spinnaker sheet with a shackle or a small block. I have u...

Some call them twings, some call them tweakers, some both.
They are the control that pulls the spinnaker sheets down towards the toe rail behind the second lifeline stanchion.

The great thing about having the downhaul where it is at is when the pole is moved for/aft no downhaul adjustment is necessary.
When we sail downwind the pole side twing and the downhaul are both on hard.
We put both twings on before the bybe and then ease the sheet side if necessary.
