Re: Detroit NOODs dates

As part of the Prime Time crew, thanks John. We were truly disappointed you couldn't sail at all yesterday, and that we didn't have Relentless out there for the first race. It's never good to see your competition heading in before racing has started for the day. Everybody out there seemed pretty fas...

Re: Lee Helm

If the problem is new, and you haven't made changes to anything that would affect the hang angle of the rudder, I would check the rudder for any signs of stress at the bottom of the rudder head. My boat developed lee helm just before the rudder snapped off last year. Broke right along the bottom of ...

Nice article about the Equalizer on SA today

Here's the text of the article posted today. I don't know who posted it, but it's good publicity for the 7.9 class, and PPYC. Lake Percy Priest. If you don't know where it is, I don't blame you. I live close and have been in the area many times but having never laid eyes on it I never thought I woul...

Dyform wire

I don't think the increased breaking strength of dyform is really necessary. I don't recall hearing about boats losing rigs because the standard 1x19 just wasn't strong enough (assuming you've inspected it, and it's in good condition). I think the issue with dyform being prohibited, is significantly...

John, Jeff, and Mike -- thanks for coming to the D. You guys did great, and provided some tough competition. I think the short and simple answer(s) for one of six 7.9's @ CSYC sailing this regatta is that good crew is getting hard to find, and it's just plain easier to race someone elses boat. Here'...

For everybody coming to CSYC on Thursday, the person coordinating things there will be Kevin O'Brien. He'll be there all day, and you'll need to find him when you get there. We have 4 7.9's, and about a dozen other boats coming in to get setup and launched. He will be handling where boats go to get ...

Definately doesn't sound standard to me. I don't know what # you have, but the first 7.9's had the pintles on the rudder, and gudgeons on the transom. Based on the size and spacing of the old gudgeon holes on my transom, I'd say the original hardware was quite undersized. My boat has been converted ...

It looks like Rebel and Magic are planning on putting in and staying at CSYC. Dave and I (and a few other non-racing 7.9's) sail out of there. Grills, tables, etc. are not a problem - we do that sort of thing every week after Sunday races.

I confirmed with Dave Grover yesterday that Prime Time will be there (with my wife and I as crew), so we can count on at least 6 boats. They have his application, but still need his US Sailing #, so it isn't posted on the entries list yet. I might not have my boat in the water by then, as there's a ...

Just a few thoughts on CCR location. In my mind, the 7.9 has a lot in common with the Thistle class, which I have been active in for several years. The origin of the Thistle was in Ohio -- solidly in the midwest, and where the largest concentration of boats still is. Here's a list of where recent Th...

I've got a commitment from Dave Grover to do it on Prime Time, with my wife and I crewing for him. With enough notice, we could try to get some boats into CSYC for the regatta. The course is about 2.5 to 3 miles from there.

Regards,

Tim
