Re: Balsa Core location in Hull
Recent repairs on the boat and research with other 7.9 owners and repair folks suggests that the whole boat (hull and deck except under mast step) is cored balsa. The major exception to this is that there appears to be a strip of solid glass along the very bottom that is about 9" wide between t...

Re: Keel template
I have made S2 7.9 rudders and repaired the keel using autocad templates that I drafted up based on section drawings available from the Class documents for the boat. Let me know if you are interested in any of this. I drilled and inserted small diameter pins (skinny finish nails) around the center l...

Re: topping lift
I am revisiting and possibly replacing my topping lift and I have never used the boom kicker but have had it on the wish list for years. Question to Dave on this topic.... If I follow you correctly, you seem to recommend using the next smallest boom kicker and using the main halyard as the topping l...

Re: Help with Cam Cleats
Thanks for the reply Drew! ...and yes the hardware??? Do you have a spec on the bolts you used? For replacing the cam cleats on the aft edge of the dog-house, do you also have a length? Boat is in Mexico and I have to purchase the stainless hardware in Tucson before heading south as it is hard to fi...

Help with Cam Cleats
I posted this as a reply to an ongoing thread, but got not responses, so I am starting a new Topic and trying again. Thanks for any replys. I am also getting ready to rig my vang leads back to the cockpit as noted elsewhere on the forum. I need to add another cam cleat for the back of the cabin top ...

Re: pictures of boom vang and cunningham
I am also getting ready to rig my vang leads back to the cockpit too. I need to add another cam cleat for the back of the cabin top on the port side. I will also replace the original 1982 vintage cam cleats on the boat including the ones for installed on the front of the boom for the reefing tack li...

Re: Deck Paint
o.k. Yes that is kind of what I learned. Thanks for the response. I am going to put the Petit Easypoxy back on again over the prep-ed old surface but now I will add their new product that tries to make them compete with the more durable two-part deck/topside paint. I hope to report back at some poin...

Re: Deck Paint
between the life-span and the repairs (deckstep) and other replaced deck gear, I painted the deck 10-yrs ago with Petit Easypoxy.
So it is way past time to repaint it.
I was curious what others have been doing.

Re: Bulkhead Compass Replacement Advice
The old one was a Ritchie too, but of course the holes did not match. I drilled out the old screw holes in the dog house and filled them and the old portion of the old compass hole with West System epoxy. I have no inboard and not much metal in that area so I have not messed with getting the compens...

Bulkhead Compass Replacement Advice
I was searching the forum for advice on replacement of my bulkhead compass. I saw a reference to a Suunto compass. Mine is mounted on the port cabin side which forms the front of the cockpit below the dog-house winch. I guess my son and his cousin thought it was a bubble that needing popping and sur...

Re: Mast step repair
...Finished the mast step repair after 5 days of work. I took lots of measurements and photos, if someone has an interest let me know. I followed AJ Oliver's process more or less. The proposed new block position as a new tang on the front of the tabernacle did not function well for the foreguy so I ...
