Dave, you certainly don't need to stop talking about moving stanchions. I tried to expess my view in stong terms simply to match your energy, which I admire. We do need more people to enter this discussion to get a better idea where the class is at. As for stanchion height, perhaps just establishing...

Dave, I guess it was the "while Not the logical place to stop" comment from an earlier post which had me thinking you really wanted to push this as far as you could. But all you're talking about is an inch or at most two, particularly if you want the tip of a 14" stanchion to follow t...

Dave, I join those who are a little concerned about outboard angled stanchions. We sail in a club that puts 150 boats on necessarily small courses. Our twelve 7.9s start only three minutes behind twenty-five Capri 25's. We have some pretty tight mark roundings, as you can imagine, with a fair share ...

Barry, I've motored up the St. Clair River in a 7.9 going to the Sarnia Yacht Club, and I'm going to recommend twin 150 horse outboards. You need twins just in case one cuts out. No seriously, our 6hp Nissan 4-stroke "seems" just as powerful as our old 8hp, but we barely made it through th...

Outboard motors

Rudeman, You might as well get the 6hp Nissan 4stroke, because it weighs the exact same as the 5hp. The weight of the 4strokes increase quite a bit when you go above 6hp, to almost 85 lbs., which is more than we wanted for easy removal for racing. The 6hp Nissan (~50lbs) has plenty of power for our ...

Hi Ron, We have raced with both hanks and a Tuffluff and find advantages and disadvantages with each. On the foredeck I love the way hanks fly up and down. We have never changed sails upwind so we haven't needed the second track on the Tuffluff. We did however go with the Tuffluff on our latest boat...

Outboard selection

We bought a 4-stroke Nissan this summer and have been very happy with it. The six horse weighs 12 pounds less than our old eight horse 2-stroke, so we now have a lighter, cleaner, more dependable motor. We really haven't noticed a reduction in power, which is good because all the 8 horse 4-strokes w...
