reaching struts
Looking at pictures of the big boats in the Fastnet. Some seem to show what looks like reaching struts on both sides, triangulated fore and aft, while going to weather, with a shroud to mast top (?). Am I seeing this correctly? I know multihulls run shrouds to the proas, but I'd think these maxi's h...

Re: Hull electrical ground
Inboards ground through the engine; outboards, not so much. No ground to mast however. Someone suggested that if caught out in a lightning storm, you should attach your spinnaker pole to backstay and drag it in the water creating a path of lesser resistance; at least that would give you something to...

Re: Sanding and painting the bottom
I have used a bottle jack to raise the boat high enough to move the trailer pads out of the way. One side at a time of course. Not a lot of room to work but pretty easy to do.

cabin wiring
Anybody know the color coding of the original wiring? Or rebuilt the electrical panel?

Re: Trailer Mast Support
Probably not needed, but a large fender works fine.

Re: Mainsheet size
No, it should just run a little freer -- but it's harder to grip. A trade-off, like most things on a sailboat.

Re: Mainsheet size
Factory spec was 60' of 3/8" sta-set. But many owners have downsized to a higher tech 5/16 and/or modified the mainsheet tackle.

Re: main flaking for sole sailing
Well, that main would no longer be "class legal" -- oversize by an inch or more, but if you're not racing it doesn't matter.
I found the lazy jacks to be enough help.

I'll post a photo if anyone can tell me how to do it; I seem to recall that there's a trick to it.

Unfortunately, Jeff was right. Cutaway revealed lead ballast with no access to dagger board trunk. Not sure what I'll do next.
