Old backstay (urgent)

I have taken a week off to prepare my "new" S2 7.9 for an early launch. It was a real mess (it's the one that had been sitting in N.C. woods for 6 years, but I'm almost there. But, horror! Today, I unpacked the backstay and found that it has nothing but a turnbuckle. I'm not racing the boa...

Thanks, Tim. That gives me a good starting point. I will be getting the boom on Sunday or Monday (the boat is stored about an hour away) and then I can have a look. I learned a lot with my first keelboat (a San Juan 24), but it was simple compared to all this stuff. I'm gaining another complete set ...

forestay replacement

I'm going to change my headsails over from TuffLuff to hanks. My guess is that on the 7.9, I'll need to replace the headstay (the luff track doesn't just fit over it). I'll have to retrieve the old headstay - any recommendations on where to order a new one?

The fabric on my 7.9 is pretty dirty, but I'm going to try cleaning it before going the removal route. Any suggestions on cleaners?

Thanks, Dave! The diagram really helps a lot!

The problem with a lot of this (for me coming from a much simpler boat) is that the previous owner stripped all of the lines from the mast and boom so there aren't any messengers for me to see how it was done originally.

Diagrams are good!

Outhaul

I admit that I can't picture all this, but I get the rough idea. I'll retrieve the boom home in a week or so from where the boat and take it apart. Then, with what you've all laid out, I'm sure I'll figure it out (or ask you). I'm trusting that it's all intact in the boom. So no estimates on line? T...

One more new member in Rochester

What is this, a social movement? I arrived back in Rochester, NY, last night (New Year's Eve) hauling my "new" (1983) S2 7.9. We pulled #195 (currently Quicksilver) all the way from Charlotte, NC, over two days. No problems at all. I raced in Charlotte for many years on J 29s and Sovral 33...
