Thanks - the 'boom plate" and rivets were pulling out of the mast. I used 5/16 bolts. Needed to drill a hole for 5/16 since the rivet holes were elongated some. All's well.

So you guys are saying to replace the boom to mast plate with machine screws instead of the pop rivets ? Do you remember what size?

mast shoe
when I raise my mast, is there supposed to be a space between the mast shoe and the mast deck plate ? Or does the mast set right down on the plate?

well , I installed a flicker / spectra backstay rig before launching, using a batten that I thought was stiff enough, but not too stiff, rigged the whole thing up, pulled on some backstay to test it, and on the first try the batten snapped. so, it's up the mast I guess - I'm not to keen on dropping ...
