Re: daggerboard damage
A couple of thoughts: When I grounded and had my board fixed it was close to $2500 - part of that was hauling the boat - the yard wouldn't take it on the trailer. Insurance did cover this - however when the adjuster tells you the crack was already there - that means it is not part of the claim (I wo...

Re: Tight Spinnaker Reaches
I agree, it is not the best point of sail with the spin. I have found that depending on what the angle is, I will drop the spin and go to the genoa with a outboard sheet on a snatch block. Depending on currents I will raise the board a foot or two. In lighter air I find the spin pretty effective on ...

Re: Seatalk network trouble
Quinn, There is a difference in SOG and Speed (thru the water) when used in those other items for calculations. (you may already know all of this) Depending on your GPS, you may be able to fool the Seatalk network by outputting the SOG with a different NMEA string of characters. I have been working ...

Mast Wiring
As I work on fixing the mast step I also plan to sort out the wiring. Currently I have 3 wires (radio, lights, instruments) from different holes all getting connected above the deck. My plan is to run new wires in the mast (I have a short I can't isolate up there, so new wiring seems to be the next ...

Mast Step - what's underneath
My Mast Step popped the glass the last time we dropped the mast. The area underneath appears to be quite waterlogged. I am working on getting it repaired and was wondering if anyone has any experience with what is underneath and what I might find. I can go ahead and open it up, but I would like to h...

Re: PHRF Ratings Appeal
I have just started playing around with the board - we do a fall series here that is pretty casual even though it is scored. So I started raising the board to play around with things and see how it goes. I brought the board up completely last night on a dead downwind run with very very light air and...

Re: Displacement / weight question
FYI - PHRF-NE - IB = 174, OB = 168 We have had a bit of a debate about the board up/down. The one answer I have seen is that if you sail the boat with a ODR (one-design rating) then you can do whatever class rules allow. What remains to be seen is if they then would want a class certificate or somet...

I have a Tuff-Luff, certainly a user friendly system from my perspective. Especially when doing a peel.

Mounting Instruments on the hatch
I've decided I want to move the instruments above the companionway hatch. I'm thinking I'll find/build a housing that will be permanent to the hatch cover (stern end), then have a wire harness below with a certain amount of slack. Anyone with experience, and do's or don'ts. Or is it a bad idea for s...

Hey Dave,
for comparison's sake - what numbers do you use on your loos gauge for the uppers and lowers?
Thanks,
Gregg

Re: Keel?
Last year I has a similar encounter - though with less damage it sounds like. I split the keep up the front for about 12", took a bite out of the front corner and crunched the back where it goes into the hull. I took it to a local boat repair guy who did a great job getting the keel back in sha...

I am looking to replace my outhaul - any suggestions. Currently it is wire with a 4/1 to rope. I am thinking of going the route of spectra or something similar, any thoughts, reccomendations? Currently the whole mechanism has a lot of friction in it. It appears that the shiv is in less than ideal co...

Re: 1st mast raising
I deck stepped this year for the first time. It went pretty well. I used the spin pole out from the base of the mast with two sheets as guy wires. Tightened them down with a truckers hitch. I then used a sheet up to the spin halyward that was run through the top of the spin pole. That sheet ran to a...
