Do you recommend disk over drum brakes?

From my research, it appears disk brakes are:
1) easier to maintain and and inspect
2) easier to wash off after launching
3) operate cooler

I need to replace all of my brake components. The trailer was underwater for a few days after a hurricane. The surge actuator is completely shot. All of the break lines were busted. I am the new owner of a S2 7.9 with the BMW engine. Does anyone know what the standard size shaft used? Do I need a right-hand or left-hand prop?
