Re: S2 7.9 Class Flag needed
Jim- Ford Yacht Club would be willing to loan out our flag, just promise we will get it back afterwards for the CCR. :D (I might bring Gauntlet up this year to race since you have a class.) That said, any chance some of the CSYC boats would want to make the trip down the river to race in the CCR? Go...

Re: What is your preferred tiller design?
Biggest suggestion is don't use carbon fiber in your design... very conductive, very bad if you are struck by lightning.
My new tiller is made of two wooden hockey sticks laminated together.

Re: 2014 Bayview YC One Design Regatta
How many boats do we need for a class? I can try and talk some local boats from down the river to show up.
Other option is the weekend before is Grosse Ile Yacht Clubs Day Race... they are making it a 2 day event and we almost have 5 7.9s that race locally now.

New Keel?
I'm helping a friend rebuild his 7.9. Long story short, the keel he has for the boat had all the fiberglass removed. (See picture) I see 2 ways to fix this for him: Option 1: - build glass around the keel and fair it out to templates (sounds like a ton of work to get it right.) Option 2: - We have a...

FYI... Ford Yacht Club Regatta - August 11th Ford Yacht Club, located on the island of Grosse Ile in Michigan, will be hosting its 55th Regatta this year and celebrating its 65th anniversary. Right now we have 4 local S2 7.9s that can race and it will only take 1 more to give us our own class and st...

Re: Stern "grab loops" and cabin top hatch slides
I replaced my wooden hatch slides with plastic fence trim sold at home depot... it has been on my boat for the last 5 years and works really well. http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Materials-Fencing-Lattice/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbb0t/R-100072652/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=1...

Re: rivets
I have replaced the rivets in the spreader brackets with 1/4" stainless. I ended up having to buy a bag of 100 for 36 bucks and found a hydraulic/air compressor rivet gun from Harbor Freight that actually worked really well for 60 bucks. The little extra is worth the piece of mind.

Re: chainplate rot and bulkhead damage
I've replaced about 10 square feet of core in my boat since I bought it... it really isn't that bad of a job to do yourself, especially if you already have ditched the carpeted ceiling. Once you get good at it you will be able to fix spots in an afternoon. I did a 10 in square under where my spinnak...

Tight Spinnaker Reaches
For those who race PHRF... what are your thoughts on tight spinnaker reaches? It seems like we are competitive on every point of sail for the most part but on this one. Is this just a downfall to the design or am I doing something wrong? Does anyone use an asymmetric spinnaker?

For the gudgeons contact Garhauer marine... I have in another post a picture of them with what I paid. They look really good and were half the price of anyone else. Garhauer saved the pattern so he can make more.

Re: Top in quality trouble.
Garhauer will make them with the welded bases for under 60 bucks each I believe. I had trouble a couple months ago getting in contact with tops in quality also when I needed new rudder brackets. Garhauer also has the plans for those now too. His prices are awesome and work looks better than anyone e...
