Wooden headliner

Hi everyone Getting to the home stretch on all the boat work. Fraser is almost finished completely rewiring the boat. $2000 and many, many hours later. I feel like a boat widow. I hope the new owner appreciates all this someday Meanwhile, I'm still anxious to get the carpet out of the inside. In the...

New gel coat?

I wouldn't mind making Operetta shine again. I've been trying to figure out hw this is done. Forgive my ignorance  Can new gel coat be applied to create a shiny new surface, say sprayed on or with a paint brush? Our boat is inside a shop at the moment but I'm not sure they would want us sprayin...

Re: Hull Liner

Hi Doug

Thanks for posting this

Do you have a link of something where I can take a look at the lining?

Still figuring out what to do when we remove our lining so this was really helpful :D

Re: chainplate rot and bulkhead damage

Hi guys I think we have the rot in hand. We chipped out the wet stuff to the white core and then replaced it with marine plywood. Then Fraser drilled all the bolt holes and filled them with epoxy. I hope that does the trick The boat is supposed to go in this week to fix the damage we did by accident...

Re: getting headliner out

Hi Tom and Doug, thank you :D The idea of spraying it with hot water and removing it intrigues me. I'm hoping we can find a place to work on the boat this winter. I like the idea of just painting the inside. We do live in the far north though, so we might need to consider some sort of vinyl backed f...

Re: chainplate rot and bulkhead damage

That would be fabulous, thank you!

I will get Fraser to PM you his questions. He's started to fix the smaller areas, but not tackled the chain plate area yet, other than to chip out the rot

Re: daggerboard damage

Hi Greg, thanks We have removed all the hardware and begun the process of fixing everything. Fraser made plywood patches and filled the holes with epoxy for the spots by the pulpit and the swim ladder. We are thinking of having the guys at the fiberglass place fix the ones that are larger around the...

Re: chainplate rot and bulkhead damage

Hi Pete, thanks good to know I think it's me that feels discouraged, but Fraser seems optimistic as ever that he can handle the repairs. I don't know if that is good or bad, lol Otherwise we love the boat and have had a lot of fun, even thinking of taking her to participate in races in Alaska We've ...

chainplate rot and bulkhead damage

We seem to be having our share of problems with our new boat On investigating the water in the vee berth, we decided to pull the chainplates to look at the core. Not pretty. Totally rotten under the starboard plate for about a foot square. The bulkhead is also rotten, and you can see where the screw...

Re: daggerboard damage

Hi Tim, thanks We tracked the source of the water to the port and starboard chainplates. When we removed them we found rotten core. On the starboard side it is rotten right into the bulkhead, so I'm sure glad we found it It still might be leaking from the daggerboard trunk and when we get it pulled ...
