I'm looking at a 1984 s2 7.9 in good shape. Asking price is about 31-k.
Can anybody help with figureing out if this price is reasonable or not. Thanks

Its value will never exceed what someone is willing to pay for it.
That having been said, I think has a lot to do with geographic location and supply and demand. For example, ours was valued at 25K with one set of working sails (main, jib & a 155), plus a set main and jib of the high-tech race stuff that were never bent on. Aside from a VHF, standard compass, and some outdated, non-working electronics and a spin pole (no sail), she came with not much else and no trailer.
We are in CT, near NYC and so a high cost of living area that raises prices on everything. We didn't pay that because the boat was donated, but an appraiser put that value on it for the benefactor's taxes.

31K sounds terribly high-- I paid a little more than 1/2 that 5 years ago for a 1986 boat + trailer. I love this boat, but I think someone is overreaching at that price. I talked to someone at a regatta this weekend who paid high-teens for a 1986 boat. keep looking or talk him down. way down.
