dagger board purchase

Post by Fred Chadsey »

Is there a way to increase the purchase on the dagger board blocks ? I'm 73 years old and it's hard for me to retract the board ?

daggerboard purchase

Post by Jim Kloss »

The previous owner of my boat had installed an electric winch (Superwinch model M1) to the underside of the ss cover, just behind the standard tackle. Ran the cable to a wire block on the board's tang and back up. Always worked slick. Only downsides were that you can't raise the board completely (about 8" remains exposed) and over time the board tang got bent slightly so that it's difficult to pin it in the up position (which you can't do anyway if the electric winch is in the way).

I pulled the winch out for racing, but my wife would like me to reinstall it. Sounds like a solution to your problem to me.
