Chartering a 7.9

Post by BarryE »

A couple of enterprising types at my club have asked if my boat might be avalable for charter this winter. They hope to go south, and maybe participate in some of the Florida area regattas.
Question is; what is the protocol for renting/chartering a privately owned boat by other private types who then plan on crossing several states with it.
What's a customary/fair charter fee? What about insurance? Is a legal contract needed? Accidents? Liability?
What are the upsides, downsides, and other pitfalls??
All thoughts and opinions welcome, thanks.
