Can anyone help????

RE: 1985 with a Yanmar 1gm engine.

I've been expeiencing a problem that is progessively getting worse. when I put it in forward gear my speed is very slow and it seems to take a long time before (it?) catches and she gets up to speed. Once at desired speed she maintains that speed but every now and then I feel a slight hesitation then she catches again. I thought at first it was a problem with my propeller but unfortunately I think it is something more serious. My guess is it might be the transmission or clutch. Any ideas as to what my problem is and what needs to be done?

Air in your fuel line could do that too. I'd rebleed everything before doing anything more drastic.

Another 1GM10 question: following a routine repair/servicing this week, the mechanic reported "intermittent starting." I have not spoken to him directly, but I think he may be referring what I assumed to be "normal" behavior: for the 6 years or so I have owned the boat (#488), the engine will not turn over until the pre-heater has been on for anywhere from 10-45 seconds, depending on the ambient temperature and time since last running. Eventually, it warms up enough, or so I assume, for the engine to start. This assumes, however, that there is some thermostat or relay or other mechanism in the starter circuit that prevents the engine from turning over until the pre-heater is "ready." But it seems like the mechanic would have been familiar with this. Do the rest of you with 1GM10's experience this as typical behavior? Or should we be trouble-shooting the starter circuit?
