OFFICIAL NOTICE OF RACE

INVITATION

S2 7.9 Class Association, Fleet #14 and Racine Yacht Club cordially invite you and your crew to attend the 2010 Class Championship Regatta on August 19 – 21, 2010.
This is a free regatta! There will be no Entrance Fee or Registration Fee for Class members if registered by July 23, 2010.

ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The organizing authorities for the 2010 S2 7.9 Class Championship Regatta (CCR) are S2 7.9 Fleet 14 and Racine Yacht Club. The host club is Racine Yacht Club, which will provide race management assisted by S2 7.9 Fleet 14.
RULES AND SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The regatta will be governed by:

• The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2009-2012 as amended on January 1, 2010

• S2 7.9 Class Association Rules. Specific requirements for CCR are dictated by Part 3 and 3A.

• Preliminary Sailing instructions will be available approximately July 31, 2010 on the S2 7.9 Class website. Final Sailing instructions will be available at registration and any changes to the Sailing Instructions and Notices to Competitors will be posed on the Official Notice Board at the Racine Yacht Club.

ELIGIBILITY and ENTRY
The regatta is open to all class legal S2 7.9s. To join the class association contact:

Helmsman eligibility is defined in Class Association Rule Part 3A.4.
Entries shall be submitted on the official entry form available online @ www.sail79s.org.
Completed entry forms, with current weight certificate and liability insurance certificate shall be submitted to:

CLASSIFICATION and DIVISIONS
The ISAF Sailor Classification Code will apply.
Each boat shall enter for either Gold or Silver Division.
The Silver Division is for skippers who have little or no experience in one-design racing on the S2 7.9 or those racing with inexperienced crews. Any skipper who has finished in the top 50% of the fleet in a previous CCR or other class sanctioned regatta on an S2 7.9 is not eligible to enter the Silver Division.
Any boat that registers in the Silver Division and finishes in the top 33% of the fleet in two or more races in this regatta will be moved to, and scored be with, the Gold Division for the entire regatta.
Only ISAF Group 1 competitors may be onboard any Silver Division boat.

FEES
At the request of your S2 7.9 Class Association this regatta is presented free for members whose entries are received prior to Friday July 23, 2010.
Class Association dues must be paid prior to July 23, 2010 to be eligible for the “Free Regatta” offer.
Fee for entries received after July 23, 2010 will be 160.00.
Each skipper will receive a Regatta t-shirt at registration.
In order to manage costs, please pre-order crew shirts. A limited number of shirts will be available if not pre-ordered. Additional t-shirt cost will be $15.00 each.


RACING AND SCORING
Windward / Leward races will be held on Lake Michigan, East of the Racine Harbor mouth.
Races will be scheduled as described in S2 7.9 Class Association Rule 3A.8.
Intended race schedule is:
• 3 races Thursday
• 3 races Friday
• 2 races Saturday

However, if due to adverse weather conditions actual or forecasted, as many as 5 races may be raced on any day.
No race will start after 2 pm on Saturday August 21.
A minimum of 3 races scored are required to constitute a regatta.
Low Point Scoring System per Appendix A of RRS will apply.
When fewer than six (6) races have been completed a boat's series score will be the total of her races scored.
When from six (6) to eight (8) races have been completed a boat's series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
A DSQ may not be used as a throwout.
Ties will be broken as described in RSS 2009 – 2012.
Time limits are as described in S2 7.9 Class Association Rule 3A.9.

AWARDS
Awards will be presented as described in S2 7.9 Class Association Rule 3A.5 and will include:
• The S2 7.9 Meter Perpetual Trophy
• Highest placing Amateur as define in rule 3A.4.2
• Highest placing Inboard
• Places 1 through 5 in the Gold Fleet as define in rule 3A.4.5
• Places 1 through 3 in the Silver Fleet as define in rule 3A.4.5
• Furthest travelled over land to the Regatta
• Furthest travelled on her own bottom to the Regatta
• Daily trophies. 3 places each race but you can only win once.
• Any other award as deemed fitting, appropriate or otherwise well deserved by the Class Governing or Regatta Organizing Committee’s

LAUNCHING, DOCKING and HAULING (no fee)
A launch ramp with trailer parking will be available near the yacht club.
Docking will be available in the RYC slip system or the nearby city dock. Rafting is to be anticipated.
Transient slips at Reefpoint Marina may be available for an additional charge.
Boats shall not be hauled out during regatta except according to the S2 7.9 Class Rules.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Tuesday August 17th, 2010
1 pm – 5 pm Registration open
1 pm – 5 pm Sail Measuring open
1 pm – 5 pm Boat inspection open
11 am - close RYC clubhouse is open for beverage service

Wednesday August 18th, 2010
10 am – 5 pm Registration open
10 am – 5 pm Sail Measuring open
10 am – 5 pm Boat inspection open
11 am – 2 pm RYC dining room is open for lunch
12 noon – 3 pm Boat weigh-in.
630 pm RYC Wednesday night racing. Separate start for 7.9s.
Post race RYC is open for food and beverage service.

Thursday August 19th, 2010
8 am Coffee, OJ and donuts
830 am Skippers meeting
1030 am Warning signal for 1st race. Subsequent races to follow
Post race Beer, snacks and lies on the patio. Daily trophies.
6 pm Class meeting
7 pm Cook-out. Burgers, brats, chicken with fixin’s.
Post dinner More lies at the RYC bar

Friday August 20th, 2010
8 am Coffee, OJ and donuts
1030 am Warning signal for 1st race. Subsequent races to follow
Post race Beer, snacks and lies on the patio. Daily trophies.
Evening Open night.
• RYC dining room is open for dinner. Please make reservations early in the week.
• Head to downtown Racine for good eats and good fun. List of restaurants / bars will be available. Trolley service is close by. It’s an easy walk there, back is sometimes a different story!
Post dinner More lies at the RYC bar

Saturday August 21st, 2010
8 am Coffee, OJ and donuts
1030 am Warning signal for 1st race. Subsequent races to follow. No race to start after 1 pm.
Post race Beer, snacks and lies on the patio.
Post race Awards presentations as soon as possible.

DISCLAIMER OF LIABLITY AND WAIVER
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RSS 4, Decision to Race. By participating in these events all competitors explicitly agree to hold harmless The Racine Yacht Club, the S2 7.9 Class Association, Race Committee, sponsors, organizers, volunteers or any other organization or official associated with this regatta. Such persons and organizations will not accept any liability for material damage, injury or death sustained in conjunction with, prior to, during or after this regatta. By participating in this event, each competitor is deemed to have waived all claims against the Class organization, race organizers, sponsors and host club from any and all liability associated with participation in this event.

INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum coverage of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000.00) per event or equivalent.
Each boat skipper and crew member will be required to sign a waiver of liability.

This is awesome. Thanks S2 7.9 association and Racine Yacht Club. There is no reason not to come. Kids are still out of school. Free race. Cheap city. Load up the boat on the trailer and get to Racine. Lets make this the biggest Nationals in years.

Hey Chris - Agree with you 100%.
Let's make this a GREAT regatta for everyone.
Keep in mind, that the club's bar was a close to free as it gets in the developed world.....at least it was last time we were there.

Racine will be a great place for our regatta. A week ago, last Wednesday, Holland had 11 local boats racing one design. At least half of them should make it to Racine

OK - Now that this ball is rolling, let's get the word out and get boats entered. I will try and post hotel info within the week. I'm going to need a good count on boats that need to be weighed. If you have questions, e-mail me or post them here so everyone will get my reply. Looking forward to some great sailing.

OK. 5 boats in so far! The deadlines looming. 20 days and couting. Hotel list sent to webmaster and should be up here and on the RYC site very soon. Call if you have questions. Would like to see 30 boats. Git er' goin boys.
