Just curious to see who's signed up and who intends to go. Should be a great regatta.

Animals in Music City
An open letter to Tom Elsen and Mark Rode, from the Animals of Music City ("oh lord, please don't let me be misunderstood..."):
Gentlemen,
Regarding the events of last Saturday night at the CCR awards dinner, when my crew and I were publicly and scurrilously slandered by both of you with the absurd allegation that we sail an inboard S2-7.9, on the advice of counsel (the esteemed C. Louie Dewey, Esq., senior partner in the firm of Dewey, Cheatham & Howe), we must demand an immediate public retraction, as well as other redress described herein. I cannot overemphasize the seriousness of this matter, especially as regards the effect on the mental state of my crew, a group of already fragile dispositions, which by Saturday evening had been rendered virtually jellified by four days of merciless treatment by the S2 fleet, as well incessant pounding, tossing and churning by that absurd entity you and your colleagues persist in referring to euphemistically as a “lake†(to paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen, I know lakes, lakes are my friends— and that’s no lake).
In any event, as regards the bizarre accusation about the nature of our non-sail propulsion, Louie and I have carefully reviewed my copy of our CCR entry form, and it quite clearly describes our engine as “INBOARDâ€, in my own handwriting. My counsel advises me that the only logical conclusion which you should have drawn from this form was that, while our engine appears to be an “OUTBOARD†(Mercury 5.0 hp, to be precise), when racing it is typically stored below in the engine compartment, thereby becoming an “INBOARDâ€; unless, of course, we are too lazy to move said motor, in which case it clearly retains its character as an “OUTBOARDâ€; unless, as occasionally happens, there is a mishap in attempting to move the motor, in which case it becomes an “OVERBOARDâ€. I can only conclude from your failure to accurately interpret my form that you are distant relatives of my crew, my boss, or my wife, none of whom understands me either.
As experienced sailboat racers, I trust you will appreciate the value of a litigious nature both on and off the racecourse: on the water, there’s nothing like a well-timed red hankie to compensate for an inability to point; similarly, off the water such an attitude can often unearth “targets of opportunity†to boost the sail fund for next season. The latter is the position in which we find ourselves.
Given the foregoing, we must insist on these non-negotiable demands, lacking which we will have to “unleash Louieâ€: an immediate public retraction of the slanderous accusation of Saturday night; a CD copy of the photos from the CCR regatta which were displayed in the bar that evening; and, the immediate destruction of all photos of boat #9 as it rounded the final leeward mark in the final race of the regatta (these will be easy to spot, simply look for the red/white chute with a 5-wrap deathgrip on the top half of the forestay, with crewmembers dangling from the clews). I hope you will agree that these are reasonable demands to avoid further unpleasantness.
In closing, let me summarize our position succinctly: doh.
Regards,
Drake Holliday

p.s. - forgive the lengthy nature of this letter, as I’m still burning off excess caffeine from a 600-mile drive through some of America’s most mind-numbing landscape.
p.p.s. - again, we had a helluva good time, and are counting the days until next year’s CCR. great job guys.

Very funny Drake
I guess there'll be a few things we all remember from now on, such as
....The line on the entry form which offers the option "Inboard or Outboard" is NOT a description of where your engine is at that moment...
AND
....Failing to properly read the SI's, then failing to file your paperwork for the spins you actually DID COMPLETE, thereby both taking a penalty and doing penalty turns (in two races), is REALLY a bone-head move...
AND
....Next time somebody laughs at you for suggesting that there really is current on big lakes, well, let 'em laugh as they're getting carried into the pin on the start line...

2005 CCR photos
Is it possible to get the photos of the 2005 CCR that were being shown as a slide show at the bar at Racine Yacht Club, posted in the photo section of the website??? It would be nice to get some up to date shots, seeing as the newest photos now are from 2002 St. Pete Noods. There were many great shots of the fleet and I would think the class would appreciate having access to them on the website.
John-
Mark Rode told me, when I asked the same question, that he'd make me a CD version of all the photos. If Mark will send it to me, I am glad to burn a copy for anyone who wants one, and mail it to you. I don't know about the rest of you, but the winters seem to go a lot faster when I can stick the CD in the computer and scroll through regatta pics, as I did last winter with the incredible photos the Boston family gave us in Sarnia.
I am copying Mark on this message, and when I get the pics, will be glad to forward copies. Please post your mailing address on the forum-- or, if you're uncomfortable doing that, post your e-mail address and I'll contact you directly to get your address.

Drake, I would appreciate the photos, my e-mail should be on the profile list. I would also like to see them posted on the Photo section on the S2 website, that way everyone would have the ability to view.
