Lake Norman One Design Regatta

Post by John Spierling »

Lake Norman Yacht Club hosts a regatta March 11 and 12. The S2 7.9 Class has had a One Design Start for many years in this regatta. Although, in 2005, there was not enough interest to form a start, if we can get enough boats, they would be willing to have a start for us again. There are at least 4 Sarnia boats interested in competing. Are there any other members interested in sailing in Lake Norman at this regatta?? Lake Norman is located about 1/2 hour North of Charlotte, NC, just of I-77. Racing is held on Saturday and Sunday, generally getting done pretty early on Sunday, so the out of town boats can get packed up and leave at a decent time. Please respond to this thread if you are interested in competing. Thanks.

Not to be overly inquisitive, but I'm trying to set up my crew list. Any word on whether this is a go John?

If theres a 7.9 start, I might just drop the boat off after St Pete. How many boats do we need for a start?

I talked with Spike yesterday, we will make a decision for a start at Lake Norman by next Saturday, January 28. Right now we have 5 boats (Rebel, Relentless, Frequent Flyer, Instigator, and GRR...) and possibly four more that we have heard from with an interest in going (Hunting Party, Rooster Tail, Itch, and Horizon). We would need at least 6 boats for a start.

I have a call into Lake Lanier, I have raced the Dogwood, 1st week of April, if they would give us a start I would drop my boat off in Atlanta after St Pete, we might have a better chance at getting a bunch of boats at the dogwood then Charlotte

Good chance the Clown Car (Robyn) will do the weekend if we can leave the boat there after St Pete, and Until Charleston Race Week.

LNYC will have space available to store boats/ trailers during the time period between St. Pete NOOD and Lake Norman Mid Winter Regatta. Details will be provided at St. Pete as to where boats are to be stored at LNYC.

Other than Frequent Flyer, Rebel, Robyn, and Horizon, all who left their boats at LNYC after St. Pete, who else is planning on attending the LN Mid Winter regatta this weekend? Grrr, Relentless, Instigator, Wind Up Toy are you all still interested and attending this weekend?? Any one else?? Weather forecast looks great, low 70's and 10 knots of wind both Saturday and Sunday. It's only an 11 hour drive from the Detroit area. Come on down and join the fun!! Great way to start the season, if you haven't been out yet.

Relentless will be there.......from my converstaion with Mike, Instigator will not be, citing crew issues. 70° and 10knots will be great compared to 35° and freezing rain. see you all friday night
