2009 CCR Regatta.

2009 CCR Regatta.
So it has been about 6 weeks since the 2008 CCR regatta and I have not seen any posts about where the 2009 regatta will be held. At the AGM meeting, 4 possible locations were discussed, Milwaukee, Chicago, Ford YC on Grosse Isle, and Rochester NY. Has the board met and decided on a location? It would be nice to have a location and date in the very near future so we could put it on our calendars and plan our 2009 regatta schedules. Can anyone from the Board of Director respond with the status of the 2009 CCR regatta. Thanks.

2009 CCR
Don't get me wrong we love sailing in Holland. But I thought that at the AGM it was discussed that the regatta should go East to pick up some of the new East Coast boats? And Rochester would be the perfect place!

I trust the board will weigh all of the proposals with equal consideration.
I also recall the discussion at this years AGM to give the eastern members of the class an opportunity to attend a CCR, closer to their location.
Jeff and the Rochester club would be a fair location. Rochester certainly can handle regattas. They hosted the J22 worlds this past year with approx. 100 boats and believe they will be holding the women's keelboat championships in 2009.
But as our constitution does state the board does need to get solid proposals,deliberate and hopefully solicit comments from the class.
I also agree that it would be a good idea if the board and class try to look forward to the following years so we CAN distribute the CCR events. This would help to distribute the event so that some people would not always be travelling a long distance every year.

The MBYC S2 7.9 fleet is enthusiasticly prepared to host the 2009 CCR Sept. 17-19. While we have enjoyed ourselves racing both the Sunfish and the JY 15 in Rochester and know that they would do an excellent job, it is important for the class to try for maximum attendance next summer. The principle advantage of holding the championship in Holland is that there are nine 7.9s that race here either on Wed. evenings or Saterdays or both, and at least 7 (and likely 8 ) will race in a local CCR. For the most part the Holland fleet does not travel. We also suspect many of the boats west of Lake Michigan would hesitate to drive to NY. We hope the class will want to come to Holland.

#267 Gotcha would interested in any Lake Michigan location, not too far for us (Iowa). NY is too far. We went back-and-forth on driving down to the Nashville CCR, the then high gas prices was the deciding factor. I just got off the phone with Scott Derby a couple of hours ago, and they have formally thrown their burgee into the ring. (Things are cleared with their RC and their board)
They're proposing a mid-September date. The average winds then are much better than mid-August.

I like the idea of coming back more central for next year then perhaps go to the east coast or west (Minnesota) next year. So that everyother year we come back central then out to more distant venues on the following year.
With that said, where we can get the most boats is always favorable.
I would like to hear more about Rochester NY, and who might be able to attend and favor this venue.

As Don mentioned Macatawa Bay Yacht Club is more than willing to host the 2009 CCR, our club is very excited about the opportunity to host class championships and we have some exciting ideas to make the 2009 CCR a great event.
Based on some of my initial surveys we believe we could get 25 boats or more on the line and we are exploring ways that combined with the potential of new boats being built by S2 this would be perfect combination to hold the CCR in Holland, MI. This would be a great way to bring some renewed interest to the class and get the class some much needed momentum.
Rochester sounds like an interesting venue as well but the distance does concern me and I am sure it would many others as well.
I think holding CCR in a central location than I believe we can really boost our participation.

Hello all- here's the scoop about the Rochester Yacht Club for those interested. The club is located on the south shore of Lake Ontario and is accessible from the Genese River. The Club is 6hrs from Annapolis, 5hrs from Sarnia, 8hrs from Grand Rapids. RYC has a rich tradition of hosting world-class events including the J24 World Championship, 8 Metre Worlds, the US Sailing Champion of Champions, Soling World Championships, J/22 NA's and Worlds, ISDF Worls plus others. For more info check out RYC at www.rochesteryc.org . I tossed out the idea of organizing the regatta because there was no other clear '09 option at this year's CCR.
I agree fully with Tim & Mark that we need to look forward and begin booking venues for future CCR's soon. I think a 3-year venue rotation would be a good start. Just an idea for the Board to study.

2009 CCR
I too would very much like to see the '09 regatta held here in Holland at MBYC. We have a great team ready to run the event, including 8-9 perennial competitors, a race committee that has run many large prestigous events (Farr 40's, Mumm 30's, Melges 24's, Laser Regionals, Olympic Youth Regatta, etc) a Commodore who is an active racer and ex-7.9'er, and the home of Tiara who just happens to have announced the rebirth of our boat!
Add to this terrific Sept. timing, with most tourists gone after Labor Day, many cottages available within walking distance, and typically reliable winds and warm weather. What's not to like!!
As for 2010, that would be the logical year to do Rochester if they are willing, and I agree it would be very good to have that venue fixed now so that everyone can plan and learn from the current event.
Add to this terrific Sept. timing, with most tourists gone after Labor Day, many cottages available within walking distance, and typically reliable winds and warm weather. What's not to like!!

What are the numbers? We don't want to risk loosing 10 - 15 boats to pick up 3 or 4. DASH would definitely go to Holland, Rochester would take some hard thinking and probably involve other than regular crew. 13 hours to Nashville was tough but doable in one day, 15 or 16 hours to Rochester would take 2 days each way so everybody would have to take a full week off. I can understand the Eastern boats wanting to get the CCR closer, but how many really are out there? I think the Minnesota boats would be hard pressed to go that far, and there are about 15 of them.
Having the new boats coming out next year is another reason to go to Holland. It would be great to see one of them on the line!

Is there a major scheduling conflict at MBYC that would prohibit having the CCR at the usual time in mid august?
I was thinking that we may be able to attract more boats at that time as opposed to mid Sept.
I know school will be back in session and that may cause us to lose some boats and crew.
I know that will affect my crew,and I believe Dave F. from Florida has a bunch of college students on his boat.That is why he could not attend the CCR in the Nash.
And there has to be some teachers in the class.

I just threw out the thing about mid Sept. to give some feedback.

We've wrestled with the Aug / Sept / teacher / student problem for years. The thought by the MBYC guys (supported by the weather data) is that the winds are a lot better in Sept than in Aug. The last two regattas have been in Aug and we've had wind problems in both.
As far as the teacher / student issue goes, I think the last time we asked for feedback on that item was in scheduling the 2006 CCR. There just wasn't any strong preference. But I'll send out an email to everyone asking for posts & feedback on the Forum.
