2009 CCR Dates

Post by Tom Elsen »

The 2009 S2 7.9 Class Championship will be hosted at Macatawa Bay Yacht Club, Holland MI Sept 17 - Sept 19 2009.

Since nearly half of the votes cast favored the July date, we'll try to hold the regatta earlier next year.

For everyone registered on the site, we will email additional details tomorrow, (12/18/08), about the BOD vote.

Keep in mind that September is "low season" in Holland. Lodging rates will be way down and we expect the wind to be great at that time of year.

The biggest problem we ran into was that all the weekends from July 4th thru the middle of September had been committed to other fleets or events. I think Jeff Pawlowski commented earlier that we should try to set dates a bit further in advance. If we had started 3 weeks earlier there would have been a lot more flexibility. Nevertheless we can't remember when the weather was not beautiful in mid September with a constant 10 to 15 knot breeze. Scott Derby, chairman of planning for the CCR, is all ready hard at work. Don and Jean B.

As Don mentioned scheduling was a bit of a challenge for us, but nevertheless MBYC is happy to host the fleet for the 2009 Class Championships and we are looking forward to a great CCR in 2009. September is always a great month for sailing at MBYC with great breezes so be sure to put this years CCR on your sailing calendars as it promises to be a great event. Thanks again and if you have any ideas or suggestions for the CCR please feel free to let me know.

Thanks again

Guys -

It sure seems that we wound up with the best solution.

We wanted to stay away from the light air in August.
Regattas immediately after Labor Day are really tough for anybody who has kids going back to school, so that's out.
And a narrow margin preferred the Sept dates.
Maybe a late July option might have been interesting, but lodging availability (and price) would have been an issue for out-of-town boats....so.....

Great location, great wind, great price. Not too much to complain about here.

Thanks to Scott and Don (oh, and I'm certain to Jean as well) for stepping up to the plate. I know it will be a terrific event.
Best wishes,
Tom
