Melbourne Fall Regatta

Post by LarryE-old »

Well its over and we had a great time!
All five of MYC's 7.9's came out plus Jeff, and crew on Magic. After 5 races we finished with 10 points to Magic's 6. This the first time that the Fall Regatta has had a onedesign class on big boat weekend. Last year, at this time, Purrfect was the only 7.9 racing out of MYC, so we have really grown.
Thanks again to Jeff and crew, it was really fun sailing and you sailed super.

To the Melbourne Fleet- thank you very much for your hospitality and assistance in helping us throughout the weekend! The Magic team greatly appreciated it! The club gatherings, launch/docking and especially the RC was outstanding. We look forward to sail you again.

For those wondering, the Melbourne Fall Regatta was a two day regatta comprised of 4 course races and 1 medium distance race (12-18 mile) on the Indian River of the Inter Coastal Waterway. The RC posted either a double or triple WL course. There were three starts (the S2's sailing OD). When we arrived on Friday morning the weather was 88 degrees with blue sky's, which continued throughout the weekend. Sunday was less humid due to the front passing through but the wind was present for great sailing. The club held a "Rum Race" fun race on Friday night for all its sailing members. Here, each boat was given a designated time to start across the line and then sail twice around a triangular course using the club marks. After the first leg around the running lights went on (first time for us flicking that switch) and we all continued sailing the race. We couldn't ask for a better night sail than that! There are several pictures from the regatta on the club's website http://www.melbourneyachtclub.com/Photo ... gBoats&BL=

I had a chance to meet Mark Mills at MYC Friday night.

Mark is the most sucessful designer of IRC boats sailing today.

He was in the US from Irland, for the Ft. Laurdale Boat Show and has friends in Melbourne. Stopped by for a drink. Real friendly and very intresting to talk to.
