2004 S2 7.9 Midwinter's

Post by greg siewert »

Come on Down!

I’d like to personally invite all 7.9 sailors to the 2004 Charleston Race Week and the annual S2 7.9 Midwinter’s, March 25-28, 2004. We are extremely excited to host the Midwinter’s as part of this year’s Race Week event. The regatta is growing fast lead by a strong one-design turnout, with about 80 boats in 2003.

Charleston harbor is the best inshore racing venue on the East Coast. Springtime conditions should offer reliable sea breezes and temperatures in the 70’s. This year we are attracting boats returning from Florida regattas by moving the event date earlier and also offering free storage for trailer boats before the event. The race headquarters is at the Charleston City Marina, which offers setup and launching, as well as free dockage conveniently next to the post-race parties.

There are abundant hotels in downtown Charleston, and your crew and family will enjoy walking the streets after the races and taking in the historic sites, as well as plenty of top-notch restaurants and watering holes. You can find the Notice of Race and registration on the Official web site; www.charlestonraceweek.com. Register early for event and get limited discounts on the registration and hotels. 7.9 Sailors, you have to make this regatta, because you’ll have a great time.

Mid-winters

Post by DaveFlechsig »

Hello Greg, Rooster Tail #496 will be there. We are planning to arrive very early Thursday. I noticed the ramp is only good for launching within a two hour window before and after high tide. Do you see any problems there and are there alternatives if the ramp is crowded? Thanks. Dave

Launch Ramp

Post by greg siewert »

Dave, Glad to hear your coming, it should be a good turnout!
The launch ramp shouldn't be a problem if you plan around the high tide. Most other classes will launch off the nearby ChYC hoist. It is a 2-1/2 ton hoist, and if you have a way of hoisting the boat you could launch another 1-2 hours after high tide. The ramp is usable only about 2, maybe 3 hours before and after high tide.

Who's coming?

It's 78 and sunny today, birds are chirping, and Race Week and the 7.9 Midwinter's are coming up fast. It looks like a good turnout, we could have as many as 10-12 boats. Remember, after Mar 15 fees go up 50 bucks. Hotels are filling up fast too. Book now! www.charlestonraceweek.com

Post by Tom Elsen »

I've heard 100% GREAT REPORTS about Midwinters, about Charleston, about CRW, about the events and parties, about the weather, the wind EVERYTHING!!

The Minnesota guys drove 24 hours with the boat in tow and said that they loved every minute....of the sailing.

Terrific job guys. I SURE wish I could have been there. Keep up the Good work!
Best wishes,
Tom
