Winter Regattas
Where are folks going this coming winter on the Florida "tour". As new owners of Magic we plan on the Conquistador Cup in March and perhaps the NOOD at St. Pete in February. I hear the NOOD has fallen from favor with the class and may not have a one design fleet . Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Winter Regattas
Rebel plans on attending St. Pete NOOD, or whatever we can interest the class into getting enough boats on the starting line to have a good regatta. Who else is interested in a Florida regatta, whether it is St. Pete Nood or something else. The winter is too long not to take advantage of the Florida weather. If anyone is interested in promoting anything other than St. Pete, let me know. You can contact me at jspierli@yahoo.com.

The Notice of Race has been posted for the 2011 Charlotte Harbor Regatta, Feb. 3-6, 2011.
Low fees, free slips, great hotel rates, generous sponsors and helpful volunteers make the Charlotte Harbor Regatta “the fun, affordable regatta.” The 2010 regatta drew 65 boats in eight classes, including the fast-growing Viper 640 fleet and the popular Flying Scot fleet. The multihull circle that featured the Hobie 16 and Hobie Wave classes this year, will double next year with the addition of the F18 and Weta trimaran classes. Also invited to participate are the Sunfish, Laser and S2 7.9 and Precision 15 classes. Other classes will be considered upon request.
The Charlotte Harbor Regatta will feature fast, competitive racing, exciting onshore activities and beautiful Southwest Florida weather. Classes will race on three circles, grouped according to boat compatibility and size. Buzz about the 2010 Charlotte Harbor Regatta and the great sailing conditions here resulted in the International Association for Disabled Sailing awarding its 2012 World Disabled Sailing Championships to Charlotte Harbor, which was recognized by SAIL magazine as “one of the top 10 greatest places to sail in the United States.”
An early registration discount and a $5 US Sailing member discount make the regatta even more affordable. Regatta rates on area hotels start at $65, and early birds can snag a two-bedroom suite right at our regatta host, Fishermen’s Village Resort & Marina, for only $140 a night, 30% off their regular rate. In addition, all nightly regatta dinners are included in the registration fee, with additional crew or family tickets only $40.

I volunteered (on the Sunfish and Flying Scott course) at last year's Regatta. Very nice folks down there. One has to admire their determination to make Charlotte Harbor a major regatta venue. It would be nice if more sailing communities realized that promoting our sport can be part of an overall economic development strategy.

I am the new owner of #50 and live in Sarasota, Florida. I will be sending in my class registration details shortly and am trying to get the boat and trailer up to speed in the next few months. I cannot personally sail the St. Pete NOOD yet may support some of my crew in sailing her there. I am however going to do any other West Florida regatta that is trying to get a 7.9 class to show up. The Charlotte Harbor regatta and the Conquistador Cup are two that peopled have mentioned to me.
If any of you from up north are interested in picking one (or more) of the scheduled "club races" at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron to try to get a few boats together on the start line, over the time you have your boats down here in Florida, I would be happy to try to organize things locally and play host. I may also be able to offer some secure parking spots for your boat/trailers here in Sarasota. Perhaps we could pick a weekend in Jan, Feb and declare it the S2 7.9 Florida Championships or Midwinters?

Re: Winter Regattas
Travis,
Good luck with #50.
I sailed on your boat when it was new. fell in love with the 7.9 and been sailing them ever since. Had a great sail yesterday.
Would love to sail Purrfect on the West side, however having foot surgery in Dec and will have to see how things work out.

Early registration discount deadline for the Charlotte Harbor Regatta is Dec. 31. With $15 off for early entries and a $5 US Sailing discount, you can get into this huge one-design event for only $105. With four nightly dinners included in the entry fee, you're essentially racing for free (or paying for sailing and eating for free)! Come early for practice, with hotel regatta rates as low as $65, this is truly the "fun, affordable regatta."
