2009 St Pete NOOD

Post by JP »

It would be great to have a larger fleet for this regatta next year so why not plan and schedule it now! I was informed that there are 15+ 7.9's just South of St. Pete (in the backyard) near the Punta Gorda area and a few on the East Fl. coast. Is this true?? Can someone email or better yet post a reply(s) here of the status of these boats and if they want to race? Let's get the ball rolling and get 15+ boats on the line!

To the boats who have already scheduled this event please chime in for a count.

Thanks! I'm just trying to get this fleet moving forward again!

I heard that Flyer, Rebel and 4 boats from Florida are attending the regatta. That's great news! Please get on board on post if you're bringing your boat. I'll get on the horn and call the boats who attended last year.

Would it matter if the St. Pete NOOD was held at your yacht club in July? You are the Grand Illusion.

2009 NOOD

Post by Fred Chadsey »

I'd like to join u in St.Pete too, but Kaotic (my S2 7.9) is not class legal, i.e. adjustable cars; shorten life lines; and other mods. Could I be accepted in fleet ? We kick ass on Mobile Bay in PHRF. but have never race in Class Fleet.

Fred,

I'd put all your mods out for everyone and see if it floats.

I'd have no problem with your genoa cars if you promised to no adjust them while under load. ( that's just my personal opinion). Perhaps you should make a recommendation to change the class rules? :)

Hi Fred
We've dealt with the adjustable genoa cars before at the CCR. As Bob suggests, all you do is promise no to adjust them while under load. Problem solved. No issue.
Best wishes,
Tom

Hi Fred,

I think the genoa cars are OK as above. The life lines may be OK as long as they are not Melges 24 type hiking. What are the "other mod's" ?

NOOD 2009

Post by Fred Chadsey »

Adjustable cars: can not other S2 76.9 adjust their cars under loads (by stepping on sheet ahead of the car and moving said car fore or aft ). Shortened stantions: I've shorten the mfgr. stantions and added new caps.

Kaotic (my ) crew met, there was excitement about the opportunity, but I would need to buy a new set of sails (maybe one time use) which would meet class rules. My present sails are cut to fit 31'10" headstay lenght and 32" of mast rake for which mainsail is config. A shortened headstay (w/ using our present sails), would not allow our headsail luff to be adjusted, as the head would hit the sheave and disallow adjustment.

I believe Kaotic is set up for PHRF and could not qualify Class Regs.. However we've discussed coming down and watching or entering a PHRF Fleet if possible.

JP, thanks for your assistance in this matter !!

NOOD registration opened last week! http://www.sailingworld.com/nood_regatt ... cation=597

Magic was delivered to St. Pete this past weekend for an early NOOD arrival. The drive down was not too bad but flying out only a few hours upon arrival was not so easy!

I hope to see a lot of boats there in February![/url]
