Self Tailing primaries

I was told that a class official ruled that self tailing winches are not class legal. True? Where does it say that? Can class officials just make up stuff like that on the spot?

Could you care to elaborate on who is the source of this story and which 'class official' supposedly made the proclamation?
If possible please also include the likely state of intoxication of both at the time of the 'incident'.

And, yes, class officials can make up anything they want, regardless of the rules, regulations, applicable local, state and federal laws, maritime code, the laws of physics and all religious dogmas.

Even if they weren't legal, as far as real world things go, why protest someone for making their tacks slower! Self tailers are ONLY [theoretically, depending on the trimmer] faster than non self tailers once they are properly loaded

The only thing gained by self-tailers is that you don't need a cam cleat on the seat back, jabbing into the main trimmer's lumbars....

Sorry, I've been side tracked. Cut the top off my boat at the mast base, picked out the rotten wood, glassed it back togeter.

Not currently interested in spending for ST primaries.

Dave Flechsig, Rooster Tail, #496 told me the story about showing up at a class event and being hasseled about ST winches.

I'm gonna do it. I have one ST winch bought off e-bay, one to go. Anybody have a sketch of or photo of a 7.9 with prmaries and secondaries? Anybody wanna buy 2 old non st lewmar 30's? Old Cam cleats?
