Weight Certificates?
Just wondering how we are going to handle the boat weights at the upcoming NOOD'S. Since there haven't been any weight certificates issued yet according to the new rules are we able to use our old weights for required ballast? Do the sail weights apply to these regattas as well?

The NOODs have always been more participant-friendly events, at least as far as very intrusive policing of rules goes. So there's a bit of the corinthian spirit that needs to apply. That will be especially true as we transition to the new rules. Our goal is to encourage participation.
That said,
Sail weights WILL apply. We expect to have these complete this week. Please note the enforcement language in the rule. It applies to NEW sails. Don't worry if you bought new sails, they are highly UNLIKELY to flunk the weight requirement unless you made a special effort to create light sails.
Weight certs can be issued before the event(s). Check with your local fleet. Better yet, organize a weight-in at your local club well before the regatta.
You may use your 'old' weight documents to calculate the required ballast.
EVERYONE is expected to carry their required ballast. So those who do not have a weight cert, an old class weight document, some other (verifiable, relatively current) sailing certificate, will need to carry the 200lbs minus the weight of the outboard as required by the rules in 2.7.

As a follow up.
We don't want to put anybody off. It will be business as usual, maximum fun with minimum hassle, at the NOODs. There'll be plenty of people to lend a hand in getting masts raised etc. We
- Won't be measuring sails
- We won't be weighing boats
- It is possible that you'll be checked for required ballast
However, as per the Corinthian spirit, if something looks unusual (super light sail material or unusual equipment, etc.) the contestant will be expected to welcome inspection.
If anyone has questions, please post them...and let's go racing!

I would contact one of the executive members to see if they have your hull # on file from one of the Class Championship Regattas. If you're lucky they'll have one. One of the problems with the old way of weighing boats is that you never received an actual certificate with your weight. Many of the old weights have been lost and it seems that they have always liked to keep the weights of boats hush-hush within the rules committee. Hopefully with the new rules things will get better as certificates will be issued.
I would like to see an open public list of each boats weight (as these new certificates are issues) so we all know how much ballast each boat is required to carry.

Weight certs
Hi Mark
There were a ton of problems with 'the old way', not the least of which was that there was no way (under the rules) to issue weight certificates. We've fixed that.
I like your idea of posting weights, but even if we don't remember that any person with a valid cert will be required to present that cert at inspection. (It's not up to the inspector to find the information.)
---------------
Let me put in a pitch here --- For all 7.9ers---Get a weight cert
If you've got several boats nearby, organize a weigh in. Get all of your certs done at the same time. The class owns a scale which you can use for free. It will save you time and hassle. Remember, if you don't have a cert you need to carry the required ballast to keep things fair.

I read someware but cant put my finger on it, how do we get certificates after being weighd At 2003 CCR.
I do have the form ishued at the regatta, will that cerfice for 3 years?
Plain Jane
Send a copy of your cert and the $15 fee to Dave Grover. That cert is good for three years.

Mark,
Exactly how is the weighing of boats done? Because of my schedule, I've never been able to participate in any of the class regattas or one-design events. To the best of my knowlege my boat #11 has never been weighed. I'm hoping to squeeze the CCR into my schedule this year as it is in my home waters. I'd like to get my ducks in a row ASAP, as it is, I'll need to rake personal time off work during that week just to participate. Any suggestions?

Hi Barry - Please read section 2.7 of the rules.
Brian - The class coordinator for the event rules on what's acceptable as evidence of your boat weight under 3.5.4. Note that we have tried to make all of the NOOD events as user-friendly as possible, under the theory that more boats = more fun. The inspection regime is much less intense and the expectation is that all competitors both know and respect the rules.
