Battery Location?

Post by sycmcsa »

In skimming the class rules I believe it stated the battery location cannot be moved? So the question I have is where is the battery to be located? The only documentation I can find shows it in the head for the inboard boats. Mine is a outboard and battery was in the empty engine bay behind the steps.

#477 is an outboard and the battery is in the head, outboard side, under the little counter/cabinet.

#11; same place, in the head, under the cabinet, my group 24 battery is in a plastic battery box, that slides into the space provided, then gets strapped down. Careful, don't knock any of the switch panel connections loose.

Thanks! I'll get it moved into the correct location. Seemed like a waste to fill that big engine bay area with only a battery! I suppose the previous owners of #267 did this so it was easier to get access to, they had two BIG batteries in the engine bay.

does my second battery have to be removed for class racing, group 24 in original location and extra group 27 permenantly mounted over forward balast, or does it get weighed with boat, and remain in?

My understanding is; you must have the minimum one battery in its correct location. You wouldn't want the extra battery on board for weigh in, or class racing. But I doubt if anyone would complain if carried it for most non-class races. My boat came with an extra group 30 battery under the starboard settee, previous owner used it to power the norcold fridge that was tucked in under the companion way steps.
