Mast Deck Plate

Post by RAYRES »

During prelaunch inspection I found cracks developing in the middle of welds on both sides of plate. Do I need new plate and should base be concave. Is there any thing else I should know. I have not yet removed plate, Thanks

My mast plate didn't crack but was also concave and sunken down into the fiberglass. Fortunately no moisture entered in, but some boats are having to replace the rotted plywood piece under the plate. So I would take the plate off, check to make sure deck it is dry, if so, then fill in the dent and make level again and have the deck plate welded and straighten so the plate is level again, caulk, and put plate back, that should solve the problem. I don't know how to post pics here, but I have a few parts left from my 7.9. I can mail the pictures of them.

4 Cleats, mast step and shoe for the mast, two small pieces of toe rail (bow), bow stem fitting, Spinnaker, spinnaker pole, needs fitting on one end repaired, rudder gugeons, aluminum rudder housing (freshwater), handle for the gusher bilge pump, two Lewmar 30's, two Lewmar 16's, (two speed, non-self tailing)

larryepps@yahoo.com Make sure the subject bears S2 7.9 parts or it may get lost in the forum in which I have sent there from another hobby.

Thank you,
Larry
