genoa car sheaves

Post by Gerry Connolly »

The sheaves on my genoa cars are all rope burned and gouged. I think they are merrian cars (pretty wide and original equipement). Where can I find replacements?

Just an idea. I had the same issue. Copied the plastic ones, made new ones out of Alum.
25 years old and are as good as new.

If the cars in question are the original equipment Schaefer, you can contact Schaffer Marine and get replacement sheaves. I had the same issue with rope burn-through on the old nylon sheaves and the axle rivet end had actually wore off also. I replaced them with Aluminum sheaves from Schaefer and replaced the axle with 1/4" SS carriage bolt. Call Schaefer (508-995-9511) as the replacement sheaves are not listed in the catalog, but they will sell them to you. They work great.
