Mast Replacement - Seeking info

Post by Tom Elsen »

The board is making final arrangements for replacement masts.

Do you have a broken / damaged mast? Do you know of a boat that does? PLEASE contact me asap.

ANY information on boats with broken spars greatly appreciated.
Best wishes,
Tom

Hi Tom

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

Class members and donors to the mast replacement fund, paid for a run of new extrusions a couple of years ago. Those extrusions are available to class members (so you'll need to join the class association, please).

The cost of the finished mast is about $1800 for those who have been members and about $2500 for those who have not. The latter figure is still a bargain when compared to comparable masts.

You can contact me for details. If you would, please also register on the site so that your email address shows up on your posts. Otherwise I have to post info instead of contacting you directly. Thanks.
Best wishes,
Tom

Are these mast still available? If so, where are they located and what do they include?

Thanks!

mast dimensions

Post by Marionete »

The mast on Runaway was repainted prior to my purchase. Does anyone have the dimensions of the mast height (total loa from top of head plate to bottom where shoe bolts on)? And what is the distance from the top to paint the headboard band to indicate max hoist on the main?

7.9 Manual page 1 shows P=29.42 ft. this is the distance from the tack to the head of the main.

zip of manual avaiable at http://hottamaleracing.com

Tim, that should actually be 29.5' [29' 6"].

2.5. SAIL SPECIFICATIONS: Note: The head, tack, and clew of any sail is defined as the intersection of the projected
sides, except for the heads of the mainsail and jibs. (See Definitions) The intent of the sail weight restrictions is to
insure that the sail is of sufficient strength and durability to be used at the upper wind range (i.e. 18 Knots
apparent wind for the #1 genoa) and last for at least two racing seasons.
The Base for all sail measurements shall be the following:
P = 29.5' (29' 6")
E = 12.25' (12' 3")
I = 30.5" (30' 6")
J = 9.5' (9' 6") :wink:
