Mast Step - what's underneath

My Mast Step popped the glass the last time we dropped the mast. The area underneath appears to be quite waterlogged. I am working on getting it repaired and was wondering if anyone has any experience with what is underneath and what I might find.

I can go ahead and open it up, but I would like to have some sense of what I might get myself into.

Any experiences would be appreciated.
