depth and speed

Post by jiml »

I'm looking to get depth and speed instuments that don't need any thru-hull transducers. Is the hull bottom of the S2 7.9 solid or cored? Any recomendations on brand of instuments?

Jim, the area in front of the trunk box is solid glass. I believe most 7.9's came with a speed sensor installed in that location. I installed a depth sensor that does not require any thru hull, it sits in mineral oil. Works fine, all the time.

My depth display is a small Uniden QT-206. The transducer, I'm not sure but very similar to Raymarine P79. It's a 2 piece. I used 5200 to mount it to the hull in front of the trunk, fill halfway with mineral oil and then you insert the unit. You can adjust the angle of mounting. Mounted it off to the side.
The speed is a an analog Smiths Instruments (made in UK), 10kt's max. Large dial, about 4". The starboard compass was broken and I mounted it in that since the port compass was fine. Perfect fit without cutting anything. Sensor that came with the boat works fine, just had to calibrate the unit.
