rewiring

Post by J.D. Kloss »

Need to rewire my 30 year old boat; getting big voltage drops on the long wire runs (bow lights, etc). A bit sytmied by getting sufficient access to the wiring block & back of the switch panel in the head. (Fat fingers & clumsy). Any hints on how to go about this?

I'm looking at tackling this project also. Was also wanting to set a switch for my bilge as a backup in case the float switch fails.

You might change over to LED lights while you are at it. MIght need to reverse the polarity of your cabin lights to make them work, like I did.
Bilge pump ? I've had my 7.8 stored in the water every summer for 9 years, and never took on any water at all into the bilge.
But maybe I'm getting complacent - hmmmm, maybe I'll head down and check it right now . .

Hello friend even I am looking to get these led lights. Can you tell a good source to get these lights at most affordable prices? Please reply

I had good luck with "super bright".
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/festoon/
As you can see, festoon type bulbs for your nav lights run about $ 3 to $ 5 - well worth it.
You'll need to do a bit of head scratching & meausring to get the right sizes. I'd tell you what I used, but it's been so long that I forget.
And again, we had to reverse the polarity of the cabin lights - I was stumped on how to do it until my teckie crew guy showed me how.
Lastly, at our Club we have had MUCH better performance with LED's vs. incandescents - when the latter get water on them from a wave, they are hot enough to blow out almost immediately. LED's do not do that.

Now when can I get a ride on your 7.9 ?

Sorry if this info is late, but if any of you are rewiring, spend the little extra coin on marine wire. It's tinned and FAR superior to any non tinned wire when it comes to corrosion resistance.
