Cleaning Orignal Non-Skid

Post by Southern Gales »

I'm looking for some input on how to clean the original non-skid on the deck. The pointy, little pyramid style that has a VVVVV pattern, which seems impossible to get down into the bottom of the V. I'm thinking a muratic acid mixture combined with an orbital scrubber may do some damage. Anyone suggestions?
Thanks!

I use a very stiff bristle brush (on a stick) with a 30% mix of Awesome. I get Awesome at a dollar store or Walmart.
For stubborn stains I spray the area first and let it sit a few minutes. Scrub in direction of checks, alternating 90 degrees. Let sit a few minutes after brushing helps too. Rinse with water.

Power washer with nozzle about six inches from the surface. No soap required. I wouldn't muriatic acid ! A boat builder once gave me very good advice in saying gelcoat is softer than the paint on your car. So, consider that whenever deciding on chemicals and cleaners.

I scrubbed and scratched and fussed for two years to get the grime from the previous owners neglect out. Then, about 6 weeks ago, the guy a couple boats down the dock from me let me borrow his pressure washer. 10 minutes later...clean.

Pressure Washer.
