packing size for stuffing box?

Post by Hoff179 »

I am a new 7.9 owner and my new old boat was been out of the water for a few years. I would like to repack the stuffing box and have not found any info on the packing size . The 1982 boat is very original with the standard 7.5 engine. Does anyone know the packing size?

Use two pieces of 1/8".

Concur on the 1/8. Just did it this year. Hand tighten and give a quarter turn with a wrench. It's almost perfect.

Consider Cutlass as well if you are doing this work. I've had my shaft out (more than once) at this point so i can walk you through it all. Stuffing box is easier without the shaft anyways.

I feel like us D7 guys should keep each other's contact information for sharing war stories. I'm sending you both you a PM.

Ditto on sharing information by us Yanmar owners.

I'd like to share info on Inboards as well.
I purchased #182 in 2018.
It came with a D7, but its in the garage.
I'd like to put it back where it belongs.
And get rid of the outboard.
