Parts Info Request

Post by bwelden_395 »

I am a new S2 7.9 owner and I am wandering if anyone can tell me where to find any of the following:

- Reef Hook (the two sided hook on the boom for reefing the main)
- Spectra Backstay & Kicker (looking for a complete inventory of what is required: line, blocks, hardware to attach, 'gotchas' to look out for when installing, where to buy now that Layline is on extended vacation, etc.)
- Centerboard Tackle (recommended line size, and block size, looking for 4:1 purchase)

All for now.

Thanks, Bart.

Bart,
I would check with S2 for a source for the main clew/reef hook object. I have a worksheet for the spectra backstay on hottamaleracing.com/links.php called "spectra backstay info" the prices are a little old, I might update that after I do a new one for #457. There are a couple of threads here about the centerboard tackle setup. I will be redoing that for both 457 and 447 this winter.

I think you will find that reefing hooks and tack hooks/horns have gone the way of the Do do bird. Getting rid of the reefing hook and just using a floating tack saves lots of wear and tear on the tack of the main and results in better shape coming from the tack too.
