Fiberglass exposed inside CB trunk

I am preparing to remove the daggerboard tomorrow for yet to be determined repairs. I noticed that there is an area inside the trunk, of bare fiberglass. It is about 6X8 inches and is about 2 feet + - down from the top. Is this something that should be repaired, somehow? Whatever the vinyl looking material is that lines the trunk is missing and it looks like bare fiberglass in this spot...
