Sealing chainplate covers

Post by Stef »

Has anyone had success with anything other than 3M 5200? Doesn't seem to hold up for me.

Stef,
We had the same thing, the 5200 didn't seem to adhere to the stainless very well, so a couple of years ago we cleaned out and resealed our chainplate covers on Hot Tamale and used 100% Silicon caulking. It has been sealed up ever since. We used white silicon and it hasn't picked up any grime yet either, so it still looks good too. We are doing the same to Blackbeard this spring (in the next 2-3 weeks).
Thanks,
